Just reopened May 1, 2019. Cash or check only as of right now to stay. Run down state campground. Clean. Quiet. Some road traffic noise but not bad. No view of ocean. Weather beaten wood picnic tables at each site. Fire pits, too. No electric hook ups at all. If they had that this place would be packed. No Wi-Fi. Few other campers. Lot... more

Weather beaten wood picnic tables at each site. Fire pits, too. No electric hook ups at all. If they had that this place would be packed. No Wi-Fi. Few other campers. Lots of squirrels and bunnies. Bathrooms also old and run down but clean as they could be and 2 mins of hot water showers for 25 cents. Cold showers currently free until fixed. Campground hosts are awesome super nice people.

I've been camping here since I was in 1st grade with my Cub Scout pack. Our group size has ranged anywhere from 10-50 people. When the campsite shutdown due to flooding, we had to skip a year. Although most of the camp was still recovering from the flood, the State Service gave us immediate priority over all other groups.
When we arrived we were met with a friendly smile at the front gate and were frequently checked upon by the other Staff members. The presentation given about wildlife captivated all of our interests (young kids, teenagers, and adults alike). We were allowed to hold a flag retirement in front of everyone in camp.
Access to the beach was okay, but we normally make the short drive to Ventura State beach and hang out there instead.
Overall, a great experience at McGrath State Beach.
