“Dangerous unmarked shooting ranges”

Nice area to explore although most roads are 4wd only with deep sand and ruts. The caveat is there is numerous unmarked shooting ranges throughout the area. A man was shot and killed in the park in June of 2022 after camping behind an unmarked shooting range without realizing.

20 minutes or so from Bend. The road is covered in sharp rock and rutted out pretty bad. There are also some pretty steep banked turns to navigate. There’s is debris from target shooting and casing laying everywhere. Pulled in on July 2nd on a Saturday and we were alone. One Quad came through but was expected. High clearance travel trailers only. There are two spots that in my opinion are in un passable for a trailer. July 2022
No gun shots heard
Pack it in pack it out no vault toilets.
On a single night stop perfect not so much for a few days. I’m he pond in the far back has got millions of pesky bugs.
The sunset was Amazing you can see the entire horizon!!!

have a travel trailer and went all the way back to the water where the cows are because there’s supposed to be no shooting there. We found a little spot to take away but all day and into the night people are shooting, we couldn’t walk around because he didn’t know where you get hit by accident. We found a little spot to take away but all day and into the night people are shooting, we couldn’t walk around because he didn’t know where you get hit by accident. And then folks at all also come to the back where the water is to ride motorcycles and have hanky-panky.. and it’s absolutely filthy, they don’t clean up any of the gun mess or the mess that folks leave behind when they’re drunk burning fires.
it is pretty spotty for a travel trailer as well to get to the back, lots of rocks, especially in the front if someone’s blocking the open entrance which is what happened, it messed with my hitch am I camper almost came out. So net net, not recommended unless it for a day to shoot.

Very sad. We just did a drive through to see if it was as bad as posted. 3 homeless looking families, 1 without a vehicle just bags and bags of their belongings.

We pulled into the parking lot and it was full of rocks, glass, and garbage. We didn't realize the extent of the glass until we had pulled over. By then we didn't want to drive on it more than we already had. The road went further, but it looked like it rutted out really bad. We decided to just stay put since it was getting late. ... more
We pulled into the parking lot and it was full of rocks, glass, and garbage. We didn't realize the extent of the glass until we had pulled over. By then we didn't want to drive on it more than we already had. The road went further, but it looked like it rutted out really bad. We decided to just stay put since it was getting late. Someone in a 25ft class C came in and went right by us down the road, maybe we were being overly cautious.
There was also a lot of traffic, both from the road and from vehicles pulling in. There was also a lot of gun fire. Apparently they do a lot of shooting back there. There really wasn't any place to walk or for the dogs to run. Maybe if we had gone further in, but it didn't seem like a good idea with a 34 ft Class A.
