Mama Gertie's was our first stay on our maiden voyage with our 17RB Starcraft Comet and Honda Ridgeline. As we got into Asheville, it started to snow and we knew we were in for a unique experience for our first night out. Check-in was simple and friendly, but we barely made it there before the office closed due to the weather on the roads.
Our site #13 was an easy pull through, but everything here is uphill so you need to be prepared for that. It had a fire pit and nice rhododendron bushes between sites. We hooked everything up and realized we were out of propane! The office was already closed but we didn't have to go far at all to exchange the tank. We didn't end up using the water because of the freezing temperatures. We were better off just using the super clean facilities and keeping the RV winterized until our next stop.
We had a great time here and hiked to the top in the morning to enjoy the gorgeous views with our coffee. There is a cute dog park area and lots of green space for playing and picnics. We thought the top area was closed because of the time of year, but saw a few campers up there so you might want to ask if it is open. The views are great!

We stayed here in late October/early November during Fall colors. What a beautiful campground. As others have said, I feel like we are camping on the side of a mountain yet our site is level. Very close to Asheville with breweries, shopping, and of course the famous Biltmore mansion.

The bathrooms were amazing and the laundry was the best I have ever seen. It is positioned close to Asheville, Mt Mitchell, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stores and the small town of Black Mountain are minutes away. I would have enjoyed our stay better if we had a different site. They do have some amazing sites, unfortunately ours was not one. But to get one of these sites you need to book at least year in advance.

FYI, Sites 27 - 45 are closed for the winter. A gorgeous campground and is kept neat and clean.
Spacious size spots. Sites are level considering the park is on the side of a mountain. Interior roads are quite steep but pretty easy to maneuver.

The positive comments abound about this terraced Park like camground that is extremely well cared for. BUT, you should feel comfortable driving on a steep narrow road to the entrance and within the campground. You should be comfortable maneuvering in tight sloped spaces with trees and rocks lining the road.
There are three sections. The lower is very shaded by trees except for one site in the upper left hand corner. All the sites are terraced by the use of rocks. Your gravel site will be level. The middle tier has about five sites with some shade, but are rather close together. The third tier has no trees or screening and little spacing between sites. There is a great view of the mts, but you will hear more road noise from I -40 than from the other sites.
There is a small dog park and little else for walking dogs.
If you have mobility issues this may not be the place for you

The final 1/2 mile or so of road is a little snug, but manageable, if you happen to pass a truck or rig coming the other way. Quick & easy check-in. The topmost level was closed for the winter, due to the potential for wind. Middle deck was great, though -- and quiet; we could only hear the sound of a babbling brook nearby. The team running the place were extremely friendly, helpful, and down-to-earth. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Unique campsites carved into the side of a mountain make for a one of a kind camping experience. Our backed up to small creek and felt like and oasis. We could hardly see our fellow campers. We will definitely be back to try the upper levels with decks and mountain view.

We have a small 20 ft trailer and were able to negotiate the "hill" easily. I've uploaded my blog post about it, which will help with pictures to get a sense of how the campground it cut into the side of a mountain. We stayed at the lower level. While the sites are essentially terraced into the mountain, each space was very level. I appreciated the coded gate security. The showers were amazing! So clean, private and plenty of hot water. The bathrooms and laundry facilities were also spotless! There is a small camp store at the office and we were able to purchase a few dump hose accessories we needed. The location is perfect for accessing I40 to get to Ashevillle or Black Mountain. We would absolutely return!

Follow the uphill road straight up off I-40 and Mama Gerties is right at the end. Locked gates with access code too. Small stream running behind the lower sites makes for a pleasant sleep. Full service sites with all you need.
