This campground is on a very steep hillside. Each site is somewhat level, but the streets are steep. They don't allow tents and their arrival time is the latest you can arrive, not the earliest - plan accordingly. I was given a hard time because I planned to arrive between 4 and 5pm. This campground is on a very steep hillside. Each site is somewhat level, but the streets are steep. They don't allow tents and their arrival time is the latest you can arrive, not the earliest - plan accordingly. I was given a hard time because I planned to arrive between 4 and 5pm. They required an escort to our site even though we were the very first site behind the office and we're traveling in a camper van. That might have been overkill. Otherwise, the utilities all worked and we were on our way early the next day.

Beautiful, well cared for Park. It’s on the side of a mountain in Swannanoa, NC ( near Asheville) with three levels with the top level having the most gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Beautiful, well cared for Park. It’s on the side of a mountain in Swannanoa, NC ( near Asheville) with three levels with the top level having the most gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Every site looked level for setting up. Our site was perfect, and we have no leveling apparatus with us. We loved the fact that the sites are tiered in the first level therefore, you do not feel like your neighbors awning will hit you, wonderful concept. Beautiful new tile showers, each one self-contained. Extremely clean bathrooms, laundry room, etc. Staff was professional and accommodating ( thanks Laurie) . Would definitely stay there whenever I’m in the Asheville area.

We arrived around 4 in the afternoon and was shown where to leave the trailer in front of the office. If flat towing a car it’s recommended to unhook and drive up to campground per staff. a staff member will then escort you to your spot. Campground is very well kept and quiet! Very nice for a relaxing stay!

“Mountain Top Has The Best Views”

Stayed at Mama Gertie’s around Memorial Day 2022 on a mountain top site. The road up is a bit tight and winding but plenty of rigs about 32 feet or less were camped out at the top. We made it just fine but our rig is a 1500 lb teardrop camper pulled with a Chevy Traverse. The views up top are wonderful with public landing / balconie... more
Stayed at Mama Gertie’s around Memorial Day 2022 on a mountain top site. The road up is a bit tight and winding but plenty of rigs about 32 feet or less were camped out at the top. We made it just fine but our rig is a 1500 lb teardrop camper pulled with a Chevy Traverse. The views up top are wonderful with public landing / balconies available to soak in the sunsets each day. The bath house facilities were clean and well kept. T-mobile Home Internet signal was strong and connection was fast. Very close to the exit off I-40 and near Black Mountain. Both Asheville and Lake Lure were within a reasonably short drive. The only down side to this place is needing to arrive in the daylight hours. It’s so they can guide you up the narrow mountain road to your site but limits the arrival time options for those that would arrive right around dusk. The camp store has the essentials as well as a wrap around porch with a few games the kids might enjoy on it. Some of the sites lower on the mountain were near a babbling brook. Looking forward to staying here again soon.

We had a Mountain View site, offering wonderful views of the mountains, above the clouds. The bath and shower were first-rate, and the full hookups looked brand new. Asheville is minutes away. Good WiFi.

This is my second favorite campground we’ve ever stayed at and it’s my husband’s favorite. It’s so quiet and serene. The Mountain View spots are definitely worth the extra money. The stars are incredible up there! We also liked how the spots have trees planted in between them to give you a little extra privacy from your neighbors. Compared to the KOA nearby (we’ve stayed there twice and it was crazy crowded) we would pick Mama Gertie’s every time!

Excellent maintained campground with clean amenities. Stayed the first night at the top of mountain with beautiful views of the mountains. Moved to shady spots below for the rest of the week. Could’ve stayed an additional week.

People should know that this campground is overrated, and is being run by new management that cares more about profit than living up to commitments. We reserved a space six months in advance for a weeklong stay in June 2021. We requested a specific space, which was confirmed, and we booked for 7 nights because we were told that if you booked for 6 nights, the seventh night was free. Two days before our arrival, we got a "welcome" email that listed a different -- and less desirable -- site than we had reserved, and a higher rate. When we called, we were told that there had been a management change since our reservation was made, and that a specific space could only be reserved with the payment of an extra fee. They also said that the seventh night free offer was no longer in affect. We got no notice of either of those changes until this email two days before our arrival, when it was too late to change our plans. Those kinds of changes without any notice are morally and ethically wrong, to say the least. There are only a few spaces at this campground that have the views that reviewers talk about, and even those spaces have views that are obscured by other campers or trees. The rest of the campground is cramped, with narrow roads and very tight turns. And the facilities are nothing special. There are lots of other campgrounds in the Asheville area, and we would recommend booking at one of those, instead of Mama Gerties.

say is to be very careful if you’re up on one of the premiere Mountain View sites when you’re pulling your trailer down exiting the CG - it can be seriously steep and a tight turn or two. The bathrooms were spotless and we loved the location of this place!

We had to move our van to a less desirable spot and they won’t refund the difference! At the time the very nice woman at the front desk told us it would be fixed. Here we are two months later and they calmly say, “We don’t refund anyone.” Be very careful. A word to the wise, they also said they would sue us if we gave them a bad review... more

Also, they threatened us that they would allege that we did some sort of illegal activity. We are a senior couple with an old dog. Nothing illegal went on, so bring it on, we will sue for libel and slander. Obviously, I don’t care.
