Lynden-Bellingham KOA

Just south of the Canadian border, this park makes for a convenient spot to rest up before continuing your journey. There are a few activities nearby, such as golfing, shopping, a myriad of hiking trails, and even a tribal casino.

The park itself presents a clean, natural image, with a medium sized pond sprawled across the campground. There are a lot of ducks and other wildlife that you can watch for hours. We even saw a pair of black squirrels, which we had never seen before.

Arriving at the check-in point is painless, but navigating the park is pretty tight if you have a longer rig. Our 40 foot motorhome had a bit of trouble getting around some of the corners, and had to curb hop once in order to make a turn.

We reserved a 50 amp full hookup site, with patio and picnic table, and were assigned site #13, one of the few 50 amp sites. Unfortunately, the site was already occupied. When we called the front desk, they told us to just pick a site. Also unfortunately, there were no more 50 amp sites. The majority of the sites in the campground are 30 amp, so we had to watch our power usage a bit.

The sites themselves are a bit cramped, as this appears to be an older campground, not built for larger rigs. No fire rings are available at the full hookup sites, either.

There are lots of amenities, including a pool that was open despite this being the time of COVID. There were a few kids in this kid and pet friendly campground, but everyone was well behaved.

It's not a bad campground, but I would caution anyone with a larger rig to select another campground.

Nice KOA that appears to be well cared for. We have a 42 ft 5th wheel and it was a pain to get in our pull-thru site. Some low limbs to deal with as well. If you have a big rig there is a storage area behind the campground where you can turn around vs maneuvering the interior roads. The workers were all super nice. I would stay here again during “off season” now that I have a better understanding of the layout of the campground. However I would probably skip it if it was peak season due to the size of our rigs and the limited site/road size. Our site was level and all utilities worked great.

Wonderful place for kids - fishing, frogs, playgrounds, arcade, and pool. As cranky retirees, we could have done without all the kid noise, but they were all having the time of their lives, so it was all good. :) I'm sure a non-weekend, non-August stay would be beautifully peaceful.
There are only a handful of sites that are truly big-rig friendly and the reservation agents don't have a good understanding of what it takes to maneuver a 43-foot 5th wheel into an RV site. If you have a big rig like ours, suggest you request one of the back-in "field" sites. They are only 30 amp, but they are adjacent to a huge field, so you can easily back in. The staff was phenomenal - so friendly and accommodating. If you are continuing on to Canada, this is the place to stay before your border crossing - there are 3 crossings from which to choose, and 2 of them (Sumas and Rt. 539) are low-volume easy crossings.

My wife and I used this campground as a "shakedown" trip to test out our new travel trailer. We stayed during their "off season" so the office, pool, and restrooms/showers were closed. However, everything I saw was impeccably well kept. The campground is has lots of trees and several RV spaces back up against the pond on the property.

The access drive is pretty narrow due to encroaching shrubs, but otherwise easy to get into and out of this campground. We stayed in a pull-thru with full hookups, so it was super easy getting setup. Pad was level side-to-side, but sloped down in the front to use the full extent of my tongue-jack. The wifi was a bit on the weak side even being close to the office. Otherwise, it was functional enough to stream a bit of TV through Netflix.

Lynden is a great little farming community with a few shops and restaurants. For good BBQ, go to Jakes in Lynden. For good breakfast, make the trek to downtown Bellingham and go to the Mt. Bakery Cafe. For antiques and knick-knacks, stop in at the Shabby Sheep Emporium.

Lynden also plays host to the Mount Baker Vintage Trailer Rally every year at the Fairgrounds. If you're in the area during the week/weekend after Labor Day, you should stop by and check it out.
