There is no indication which way to go so we ended up driving through both loops until we found our site. That being said, it was quite peaceful, and we enjoyed a lovely moonrise over the river.

Stayed here one night while passing through on our way out west. Very clean, easy to access off the highway, and wide, flat sites to set up. The lake is lovely, the facilities are well maintained. Definitely would recommend.

Sites 1-40 (along the lake) were closed due to high water, which made our site essentially on the water -- nothing but a trail and a closed road between us and the lake. This definitely enhanced the experience. There is lots of room between the sites on the electric-only section. On the other side of the road, the full service pull-through sites are a bit closer together. I'm sure this was a plus for the three trailers that were traveling together and partying across the street from us! LOL!
Lots of very tall trees, a pleasant wind, and only one day out of 4 with rain. Like everywhere during this pandemic, no one without reservations was allowed in and with reservations you just pulled into your spot. There was no human interaction needed.
We could hear the traffic on the highway, but it was just background noise to the natural sounds of the birds and wind blowing in the trees. My husband was able to paddle board on the lake, and we biked around the park on the paved roads. There's a lot of history here, though the visitor center is closed. The amazing boat, on which you can take trips later in the summer, is out in front and being worked on.
The electric only sites have no water, so come prepared. There are spigots available, but hooking up a trailer to go get water isn't a lot of fun. We filled our tanks before leaving the previous spot, and that was fine.
All in all, this was a lovely and relaxing place to spend a few days.

I will remember the lily ponds and the squashed frogs on the campground roads. We camped here in mid August, and I got hundreds of chigger bites on my lower legs, ankles and feet, that tormented me for days. I would come again, but only with full slacks, socks and walking shoes.

Our neighbors were from the local area and they mentioned that the park gets very busy and noisy on the weekends. Makes sense why we couldn't book a spot past Thursday lol. There are many nature trails and the lake is beautiful. We worked from this location using AT&T and Verizon hotspots, about 8mbs down and 6mbs up. Our T-Mobile phones worked great as well I just never ran a speedtest on them. Only negative IMHO, the water pressure here was low, around 39 psi. We would definitely stay here again if traveling through Iowa.

Pretty park, some trails and a nice lake views. Playground for kids, bathrooms, full hook ups (50amp) with water and sewer on site. Some sites only have electric and some are primitive. We would stay again!

Iowa State Parks have no entry fee which is great. Verizon had 4 bars and we were able to get 12 local channels on the air antenna. Iowa state parks are a bargain. Some of the fire pits could use some attention and had garbage that other folks left behind.
