We arrived early enough to score a lake front site. $40 vs $35 for non lake front site. Just a beautiful campground. Check in and out is at 11am CT. The bathrooms are dated, one stall in the men's. A shower coffee is needed from the host to use the showers. This camping is s hidden gem.

“ Getting to the Park - When using GOOGLE MAPS make sure the directions are taking you from hwy 2 to Prentice Ave N,
DO NOT follow Wills Ave or 7th Ave as those routes will be a dead end and make it very difficult to maneuver large RVs to turn around. “

Small campground right in the city of Ashland. Well maintained and clean. Restrooms are currently closed. There is a porta potty on the grounds. Boat launch available for a fee on the honor system. Playground and pavillion on site.
There is a great paved trail that goes around the campground and the city of Ashland it is the Tri County Corridor trail is approximately 62 miles long. They even have bike repair stations along the trail.
The campground is located right next to the Lake Superior research vessel and the old ore docks.
We were on site 12. We would stay again.

Chose this park to explore the area, including Apostle Islands, and we enjoyed it so much we extended our stay 2 days over the July 4th holiday (we usually don't stay in campgrounds on holidays). We arrived early afternoon on a Sunday to a few sites available (most campers left Monday) but found a waterfront site (22) that was available for 3 nights before a month-long reservation arrived (campground is first come, first serve but month-long...or longer...reservations can be made). Great shade tree and water views but close to the busy playground. The next day, 2 other waterfront sites opened up with no reservations arriving so we moved to site 18 (two small trees for some shade...it was hotter than normal that week) and WOW!! We had the best water views in the campground! Bike/walking trail runs along waters edge in front of sites but wasn't too busy. Easy access to the water to launch our kayaks or just dip in to cool off. Campground was fairly quiet all week, even at night and on July 4th (nearby ore dock was busy with firework launchers though). The city of Ashland put on a fantastic fireworks show that we had front row seats to from our site!! Our rate reflects a weekly rate ($200), otherwise $35/night (cash or check).
Lots to see/do in area (30-40 minutes to Bayfield/Apostle Island ferry, Copper Falls State Park, murals in Ashland, bike trail along waterfront). Sites are gravel/grass with table/fire ring with mostly good space in between (some sites in back are smaller and closer together) that can accommodate large rigs (several class As in the park). Best to arrive mid-day to ensure a site...only one or two days was the campground full during the week we stayed leading up to 4th of July (overflow is available at the boat launch for $5/night or down the road at the power plant for $20/night if space is available). Dump on site was easily accessible with our 32' travel trailer. Boat launch/playground adjacent to the campground (no construction next door to campground previous posters mentioned). Restrooms/showers were closed due to COVID. Signs from hwy 2 provided easy directions. Only problem we saw was a few people came in early in the morning on Wednesday to "reserve" their sites but didn't leave their rigs (rules state you must have a vehicle or rig on the site when you pay for it). This frustrated several campers who drove through during the day, but think this only happened because of the impending holiday and is not typical.
Camp hosts on site change monthly but were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

The utilities location makes this more of a pull-in site, so trailers would have to run their lines to the other side. The parks has lots of space between sites, water and electric, and a good enough cell signal to work on. The park is fairly quiet at night, but construction on the west side of the park does produce some noticable noise during the day. We would definitely return again.

Our site backed onto Lake Superior. There's a mural walk that you can take in town and an artesian water spigot at the end of town for some great water. There's a Super Fund environmental recovery project next door and there is some noise but we were far enough to away that it didn't really bother us.
Not a lot of shade but in September it wasn't an issue. 50 amp was good, water was good. Dump available but a little difficult to pull our rig into.
There's wifi but we weren't able to connect with the provided password.

Sites are gravel and slightly unlevel. The turning radius in the campground roads is tight but just about any trailer or moho can find a place to fit.
For the location, it's a bargain. You don't often find waterfront camping for $30. Good starting point for a visit to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore area, too.
Check out the KIYI ocean research vessel if it's docked, right next to the campground, and also walk the remains of the old Soo Line iron ore dock which goes far out into the lake.

This is a small city park. Interior roads are tight due to narrow roads, some large boulders, and RVs with awnings out. It's a one way loop through the campground so backups can occur as people are scouting for a site. Most, if not all, the waterfront sites are taken by monthly renters. It's first come, first serve. Sites have some gravel, dirt and grass and some are not well defined. Our site was just on the side of the road. There is water and electric – some are just 30 amp and some are 30/50 amp. WII FI worked off and on and mostly off. Directv worked fine. Verizon signal was very weak even with our amplifier. Even in town, the signal is not very good. This campground is right on Lake Superior, and they have a boat ramp and small beach area. A bike path runs right by the Lake and you can access it from the campground. You can easily walk, bike or drive downtown. Downtown Ashland has some very cool murals on the buildings. Freehands Farm has wonderful farm to table dining. Take a fun afternoon drive to Bayfield. There are tours to the Apostle islands as well as a vibrant downtown. We stayed here in a motorhome and would stay again if in the area.

The hookups definitely are not placed strategically, and we needed a pretty long water hose to reach but it was fine. W/E with a dump station nearby.
The campground is pretty open with few trees, but the sites are decently spaced with lots of grass. The 10 mile paved path that runs around town goes right through this park. There's also a decent swimming beach and playground that the kids enjoyed.
We ate at Buddie's Burgers (twice), went to the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, road the path, and took a walk out onto the breakwall - that used to be the oar dock. That giant copper structure is no longer there and the blue boat is fenced in as a biological research station.
