But no picnic table or fire ring. Also, there are no defined spaces in that area, so people can pull in close to you if they want to. Think of it as a big grassy parking lot. Also, it was a bit of a hike to the bathrooms.
We spent the last few days of our stay in a regular, numbered campsite. Our paved pad was pretty level, but some of them weren’t. There was plenty of space between campsites. No sewer hookups, but the bathrooms were clean, including the showers. The pool was really nice and there were lots of open spaces around the campground to give our dog some off-leash exercise.
We are new to RV travel, but this place seemed pretty nice to us. I recommend a reservation, especially on weekends.

No sewer on any sites, but there are two large dump sites.

W/E only at the sites, water at ultra high pressure. 2 dump stations in the park. Sites are long and paved asphalt, however many were slanted/canted making leveling a chore. The showers were not adjustable for temperature, and coupled with the high pressure it felt like taking a shower with a pressure washer. Garbage dumpsters were a bit of a walk from our site. Trees are thick in some places, may interfere with satellite reception. Our site developed a bit of a swamp outside our front door after a light rain. Good location for Lexington, all things equine, & the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and the Brewgrass Trail.

Stayed here Jan 21, 2017. Only one of the inner loops was open, and one bathroom. Maybe 6 other people staying here. Since only the one loop was open, pretty much everyone had a large view of the playground. There were also bright lights on at the playground that were not necessary after 8 pm, as no one was there. Bathrooms were clean. Easy walk to the Horse Park if that's your thing. There is also a bike path that ends here, and from what I read you can take it the 12 miles to downtown Lexington.
Site was $28, but with AAA discount it was 10% off. Water hookups were turned off in January, but we did have electric.I would not stay here in a busier season, as the in-season price was $33/night and there would be zero privacy from the campers around you. Not bad during the time we were there, though.
I rated 2 stars for noise - even though we could only hear a bit of traffic, it was the light pollution that really turned me off.

Although this is a state park, it feels much more like a commercial park with the way it’s laid out, and with its amenities (swimming pool, big playground, golf carts, camp store, laundry, etc.). It’s an easy walk from the campground to the Kentucky Horse Park and International Horse Museum, which are well worth visiting, even if you’re not a big horse fan. Two distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail (Town Branch and Woodford Reserve) are an easy drive from the campground.
We arrived at the campground on a Thursday and initially were very happy. Our site in the main campground (C153) was close to the Horse Park, and the site’s shade, as well as its electric and water hookups, were much appreciated with temperatures soaring into the 90s. The sites around us were vacant and the evening was quiet.
Then came the weekend. We were told that the campground would fill, and it did – with some large, very loud, groups. (One particularly loud group of 10 was camped in the site next to us.) Quiet hours begin at 11:00, but they weren’t observed, and there were no campground hosts to enforce them.
We would stay here again, but would avoid weekends in the main campground during the prime camping season.

Beautiful tree shaded camping site, paved lot, 50 amp service and watch out for the the high pressure water. We would have stayed longer if we could have. Miles of pave road throughout the park for bicycles and walking. Everything in the park was clean, crisp and GREEN! We loved seeing the horses, Lexington and all the activities of fellow campers. Antenna TV was good, verizon access for my work was good. Access was easy from I75 and park was not light polluted like some. There was no road noise. This was probably the best laid out campgrounds for giving everyone room and a modicum of privacy. Thank you Kentucky Horse Campgrounds!

The horse park itself was pretty dead at that time of the year, especially during the week but still a fun place to explore and great museum. We walked over out the back of the CG and picked our way through the empty arenas to the visitor center etc.

First of all, there are three options for camping here: the regular sites with paved pads, picnic tables, and water & electric hook-ups, the primitive electric area which is an open layout with shared electric hook-ups, and the primitive electric area which is a giant open field with no hook-ups. We choose the last option and enjoyed 9 days of near solitude with lots of sun for our solar panels and easy access to all the park's amenities for a mere $20 per night.
During our stay we walked through the main campground several times and I'm fairly certain I would not be giving this campground 5 stars if we had stayed there instead of the primitive area. The sites are close together with no privacy, and they allow golf carts which means every other camper was zooming around on a cart with kids hanging off the back. So if you don't need hook-ups do yourself a favor and choose the primitive area.
The location of the park is fantastic. Next door is the Horse Park where you will find a museum, a working horse farm, an arena and much more. Be sure to purchase your tickets at the campground for a discounted rate. Also in the area are a number of Kentucky Bourbon distilleries, lots of good places to eat (don't miss the nearby Red State BBQ), and the Keenland Race Track.

The Horse Park Campgrounds entrance is like driving into a college campus: rolling hills of green (excuse me, maybe it's blue) grass. A winding drive takes you to the center of concentric circle access roads that spread out into campsites that will give you plenty of room for your horse trailer. All the sites are large and pie shaped with lots of room for your critters should you bring them. Water and electric are at each site with a remote dump station.
Showers and bathrooms and lounges are in separate buildings. Maintenance is excellent and everything is clean. All sites are reasonably close to the museums, halls and barnes which are on campus. They also have their share of outdoor basketball courts for recreation, this is Kentucky after all!
