DO NOT ACCESS FROM RT-93 with trailer!!!
We went exploring in our 4x4 Tacoma for future sites north of ELY NV off of RT93. The highway sign to Kalamazoo as well as two other sites whose name escape me has the traditional tent and RV camping logos.
The left turn to Kalamazoo says 8mi, it’s more like 10, HOWEVER, this is a 1 vehicle width road in two directions with many switch backs straight up to the 8500-ish foot Kalamazoo Peak.
From there you continue down the same road and constraints through a beautiful pine/aspen forrest down to the valley below in the other side of the ridge.
There are 4 camp sites with fire pits within a few hundred yards of each pair of two. The bottom two sites has a typical NPS toilet. No water, power etc. picture of the truck with the stream is the campsite.
The way to access these sites, unless you want the 4x4 experience is from the back on SR-893. Find the way to Cleve BLM and continue on 893 for another 20 miles more or less. There’s a good sign for the left hand turn.
Additionally, if you’re bringing your RV; small campers are ok as the road is graded with only a couple of rough spots and one sharp turn to navigate. 3-4 miles to the sites.
However, I did not try it with our 22’ Micro Minnie as there were areas with large branches over hanging or impeding the sides of the road which I felt could cause problems.
Small campers, tents and you’re golden! The attached picture is of the camping meadow.
Thewookie would stay here again
