First.. the campground is visually gorgeous. Lush with trees, and nicely spaced sites (especially the Sandpine Loop, the Tropical Loop is a bit too 'out in the open' for our tastes). The springs, a pleasant delight to swim in - we lucked out with 80+ degree weather, so it was glorious.
But if you're looking for peaceful and quiet.. keep in mind these points:
- The campground is very close to Hwy 40. Especially on the Sandpine loop (the one with nicely spaced private sites) gets a LOT of highway noise.
- There is a BOMBING RANGE just 8 miles away. While we were there, Jax Naval Air Station was conducting training. It was non-stop jet flyovers and bombing. There were warnings out for be extra cautious about bomb-shocked bears and wildlife. Ok, this is fun for a bit, but gets REALLY old.
- There are no hook-ups in this campground. There are lots of trees, so solar is not going to help you much here. Which means, generators. And lots of them.
Also be cautious on the Sandpine Loop, some sites are quite unlevel. Our site, 46, had a 3 degree slope to it that required some extensive leveling to make workable. There is NOT noted in the reservation site.
While we were there, the trails with boardwalks were all closed for maintenance - which significantly impacted the walking options. The interior trails are quite limited and short, and go right through sites within the Tropical Loop (crazy!). Kayak rentals are currently not in operation due to the pandemic, so if you don't have your own - that's not a driving feature.
We got bored quickly with things to do in the park, and annoyed with all of the noise.
Overall, we left a day early on our reservation out of disappointment.
$28/night for dry camping?? Find a FL State Park, they are a much better value and experience. These federal campgrounds run by private commercial concessioners are out of line.
Internet wise, AT&T is pretty much unusable here - despite their coverage map. Even all our antennas and boosters, couldn't get it working. Verizon and T-Mobile both were quite usable with exterior antennas however, we could even do video conferencing and streaming.

We reserved our site online after driving thru the campground a few weeks prior to see the the layout and amenities. Our stay was during the week so each section was fairly empty. Checkin was super easy and the attendant was really nice and helpful with questions. The sites were paved pads but had plenty of room if you had tent camping needs. The primitive area was a bumpy road and would allow a Class B but probably not much bigger. Was spigots were located on the road loops. The campground is located along the Florida Trail and the spring was very nice 72 degrees. Restrooms were clean and maintained frequently.

This campground is the definitions of lush, beautiful, natural Florida! Almost every site is surrounded by gorgeous palms and trees to host your hammock. The campground features nature trails, canoe launching, and of course the picture-perfect historic mill and teal blue spring for swimming is only steps from your campsite. Wonderful proximity to visit other springs in the area like Silver Glen and Silver Springs. It’s not near much else, and there are no hookups, but it’s worth the access to a real Florida camping experience. We stayed in early March and the weather was beautiful. Regularly cleaned bathhouses, on site dump station, and good cell signal for work were enough resources for us. Go grocery shopping before you arrive, not much for good stores or restaurants that we found. We stayed in the tropical loop which was great, but wish we had booked the Sandpine loop, those sites are even more private and beautiful.

Not good for big rigs, tight turns and vegetation, we saw a guy move twice before finding a sight big enough for his fifth wheel.
Bathrooms are flush toilets with sink and mirrors. Shower is individual male & a female stall with locking door, good water pressure, and hot water! All clean, except the vaulted ceilings needed a cobweb dusting.
Dump station upon entry/exit to camp sites, very clean and easy pull through including Fresh Potable Water.
Supplies... go to Astor Park ten minutes away... Triple A Market has everything including beer & Wine, & Middle of Nowhere Pizza is perfect for a pickup after cruising to one of the other springs.
Park Spring Trail & Pool... amazing. Walk the trail behind the mill house to walk along canoe trail, & visit the crazy underwater quicksand pits. Bring water, watch your step. Stay out of the water unless in a canoe.
Driving distance to other springs is about ten to twenty minutes, there are forest roads on the provided map that are extremely well maintained but do take longer... like the 33.
Amazing place, they were in transition of management, so no store/souvenirs, & canoe run was shut down. Facilities and entrance were still maintained, and all the employees were just super nice including Ms. Denise at the entrance who handling the chaos so very well.
We will definitely be back.

I highly recommend the 7 mile canoe trip. It’s really a lazy float down the river. You’re not allowed to swim in this part of the spring but there is a section that allows you to swim. The water was a nice 72°. I did go for a dip. Water is very refreshing even in February in Florida. There is also such a freshness to the water that is bubbling up from the spring. Nice nature trails to walk. I would go back again

Woke up to a gorgeous walk around the springs and a morning swim. Be sure to walk to the right of the mill house and follow the boardwalk to the Fern Hammock Springs, which are a bonus! (10 min each way) Spent most of the day reading by the spring while families played and picnic'd.
You can rent canoes which seemed a little pricey but I bet is cool.
Like others mention, 'Town' is quite far so bring what you need altho there are two stores. One at ranger station and the other by the springs.
Site was fine - bathrooms clean but nothing incredible. One con is that they didn't have outlets in the bathroom but hey - you're camping!

Our site was very private. Back in. We fit with the motorcycle trailer attached. No hookups. But does have water and dump station. Bathroom acceptable with hot water. You get a discount with National Pass. (22)12 Boardwalk along the river a nice walk to the swimming spring. Also a concession stand.

We stayed here mid-week at the end of October. The park was so quiet! We pulled our 35ft fifthy into site #7 with no problems. The site felt cozy and private, wrapped with a backdrop of palm forest. The paved loop on our site could have used repairing as it was broken on the edge which left a big gap between it and the sand.
We have cell service from AT&T and Verizon and had great reception here.
We really enjoyed the Juniper Springs. It was lovely to take a dip in the crystal clear waters and lay in the sun surrounding the natural pool. The grounds are nicely maintained. There is a concession store and nice restroom facility at the Springs.
Also at the concession store is where you can rent canoes or kayaks and take them for a run down Juniper River. That was an adventure! Rated intermediate, the run is 7 miles long with crystal clear spring water. It has narrow and wind-y sections with fallen trees over head and in the river bed. Watch out for those in the river bed. We got stuck on a few and had to jerk ourselves off. People spoke of seeing otters, snakes, and personally, we saw an 8 foot gator sun bathing right at the river's edge as we came around about 5 miles in. A very memorable experience!
I should note that we got a discounted rate of $12/night with our National Parks pass. Excellent value.
