I stayed here for 14 days. I scheduled 6 months in advance for my March stay and still had to accept four different campsites in order to secure 14 continuous days since this place is so popular, especially with snowbirds. It is well cared for. Staff is helpful. Best bathhouses ever for a state campground. It’s very flat with mostly pine trees and palm trees. Nice paved walking/biking trail. Lots of other trails for hiking and biking. Landscape is nice but not real exciting to see. I stayed in river campground and had AT&T 5G 3 bars. Speed test gave me 40MB download and 12MB upload speeds which made working remotely from my trailer a great experience. About 5 miles to local public beaches. Sites have water and electric but no sewer. Only one dump station in park which was 5 miles away. Good snowbird campground.

We got a site in the Pine Grove CG which was fortunate since one member of our party needed to work while we were there. ATT & Verizon signal were fine for work from that CG, but as you went deeper in the park, ATT dropped to 1 bar and Verizon went to 3G.
The sites were gravel, FHU and pretty roomy. There is a line to hang wet towels, etc, a firepit, and a picnic table. It isn't the "prettiest" campground and there isn't much shade if it is very hot outside, but it was a great winter campground.
There is a LOT to do here. Right outside the CG is a bike trail that lead to a network of mountain bike trails that are very popular with day use riders. There are hiking trails of varying length with a sandy base in large part. Horseback trail rides were available in the winter and kayak/canoe rentals are also for rent. It is about 4.5 miles from the entrance to the river, so a bike is a good thing to have, especially if you don't want to risk a speeding ticket on the roads. We saw multiple cars get stopped. There is an observation tower with a view of the Atlantic and the ICW.
The only slight negative was the lady who checked us in. We were there before the 3 pm check-in time and were told our site wasn't ready. We saw multiple other campers pull in and get to go to their sites. After 30-45 minutes, we went and looked and saw that our site was empty and had just been raked, etc. We told the lady at the office that it was empty and had been cleaned and she said she would not check with the cleaners because she didn't want to disturb them and reiterated that check-in was 3. After another 45 minutes or so, she finally said we could go to our site. It was a minor issue but would have been nice to go ahead and get into our site since it was empty.

Pine Grove is near the entrance. The only negatives from my point of view is the sites are very close together. And Riverside lacks sewer and has no dump station there, you have to go to the other campground to dump. Ironically that side (Pine Grove) has full hookups.

For years we have heard the hype about how great this state park is. Not for campers like us. The reviews here state how barren the front campground Pine Grove is compared to the River and that is not true at all. There is plenty of privacy where the big rigs collect. The River campground is more for tents and people who want to be far away. It is four and a half miles in from the entrance to the park. There is one bar of AT&T cell service and it is spotty at best. The hiking trails aren't so hot either. The river cruise is a expensive disappointment, but the river is beautiful. The bathrooms are great however. The showers some of the best ever. Very clean and new. The paved bike trail is very nice as well but a bit too short. All in all a disappointment due to the high expectations we had for camping here. We changed our reservation on site from two weeks to three days due to a "boil water" advisory. Not having access to fresh water and then the only dump site being in the front campground over four miles away made it undesirable to stay here any longer than three days. Sorry for the poor review.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here - which was sadly cut short when Florida closed all of its state parks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, we spent our time here self isolating, which lended to many hours of enjoyment of the park itself - and no time spent enjoying the surrounding community.
The park has two main campgrounds. We stayed in site 52 in the Pinegrove Campground, which has a lovely lay out, with well spaced sites and well positioned bathhouses with toilets, showers, vending, and laundry (we did not use these - so can't report). There is not much provision of shade in the campground, but sites are level and large.
Full hook-ups at a state park is not overly common so we really loved having them here. And there were tons of tortoises roaming about amongst the campsites. We loved watching them traverse their daily routes.
My biggest complaint was the prohibition of hammock use. And the no-see-ums got gnarly some nights. There was a bit of road noise from the main thoroughfare.
There are some nice trails - specialized for mountain biking. There are decent running possibilities here too - roadside and along a paved trail running to the Horse Camp and River Camp areas.
Verizon signal was highly usable for streaming and work.

Staff at the park were friendly and helpful. We left on March 13th, just days before the campground closed for 60 days. My blog (www.chambersontheroad.com) provides lots of information about what we did in the park and the surrounding area. I have several posts related to this area. We would definitely stay there again.

If you like biking, kayaking, and hiking Jonathan Dickinson SP should be on your list. Located off HWY 1, you can go south to Jupiter/West Palm Beach and to the north Hobe Sound/Stuart area. Our site, #20 was gravel and had been raked out prior to our arrival.

This campground is less than an hour from our house and this was our first time camping there. There are two campground areas – Pine Grove Campground and River Campground.
Reviews on Pine Grove has us a little nervous that it was more of a parking lot but we were pleasantly surprised. There is a lot of pavement and the sites are nice and level with gravel but there is enough shrubbery and foliage between sites to seem a bit private on many of them.
We booked site 27 - an outer loop site and the back area butts up to an embankment that blocks US 1. There were several with similar foliage - sea grape blocked the view to the neighbors. We could hear the traffic from US 1 but because it was hot, AC on while sleeping. Didn't bother us sitting outside.
River Campground – The sites are closer than we thought or appeared online and we would have had a hard time fitting. We are probably around 31 feet overall.
Bathrooms – The bathrooms on our loop were big and clean with washer and dryer. We did not check out the bathrooms on the River Campground.
Visitor Center – The visitor center, along with everything else is nice and clean with friendly staff and interesting information regarding the park. There is a lot of history and wildlife information.
The area used to be a US Army base in the 1940’s. It was only in use for 2 years before it was decommissioned and then became migrant housing. In 1950 It opened as a state park to the public.
Overall impression – nice campground, would go back … in cooler weather.

This is a popular CG. Getting a reservation was not easy especially for a weekend. I booked mine 2+ months in advance and was the last spot available for the 5 days. Check in was seamless. Paved roads throughout. Many bike trails some raved many are dirt and gravel for mountain bikes. The mountain bike trails require helmets although I did not see it enforced. Typical state park weekend crowds where people are partying into the night. The weekdays were much more enjoyable (if you like quiet). The sites are large but all are different sized. They are gravel and level. Bathhouses are new, clean and plentiful. There are 3 loops with 2 bathhouses in each loop. Lots to do in this park. Biking, canoeing, hiking, exploring, geo-caching, and much more.
