Good amount of large spiders.

You have to stop at the kiosk then pull into one of 3 large RV spots to go into the office. Park is not far from civilization, with grocery and restaurants 10-15 minutes away. Sites on the lake slope slightly towards the lake, our site was 2-3 inches low in back. Pull thru sites look nice but are not lakeside and are not level, site 49 is very unlevel. We could only see one neighbor from our site (58).
Pros: Some sites are on the lake, close to stores, very clean, many hiking trails in the park, bathrooms are clean and functional, good AT&T cell service.
Cons: It is a 5 minute drive from Deer Ridge to the park entrance. It can get windy. Most sites are not level.
AT&T Cell service was excellent, all the bars of 5G. Streamed without interruption without the booster.

The campground is nice and well maintained and sites are well spaced with lots of grass, trees and/or open areas. The park staff were very friendly and helpful. This was our second stay in site 78, this time for 4 days in late March. There is no WiFi, cable or sewer hookup at the camp sites and the dump station can get a little busy around checkout time and is a goodly distance from the CG if you plan to use a portable waste cart. Restrooms and showers were clean and the shower was nice and hot. There is a nice paved 2.25 mile trail through the CG and the surrounding area.
AT&T coverage was not as good as the last time we stayed here a couple of yeas ago, with generally 1 Bar of 5G service and speeds up to 1 MB/s. We had an unobstructed view of the sky and so we were able to receive all 3 SW Dish satellites and good Starlink coverage with speeds between 2.5 and 4 MB/s. We didn’t try to load any OTA channels.
You do have pay a daily $7/person entrance fee or purchase a Texas State Parks Pass for $70 if you don’t already have one, which did add considerably to the cost of our stay.

Site 51 is a crescent-shaped pull through and close to 100 foot long. There are several of the crescent pull throughs in the Deer Ridge section and there is quite a bit of space between most of the sites in this section. Each site has the usual amenities: fire ring, grill and picnic table.

Pro Tip - IF you do not need hook ups book a primitive equestrian site & save $. They have recently added water & electric to half of the equestrian sites.
Pro Tip 2 - IF you are going to be here in summer months do NOT stay in an equestrian site, go to Google Earth and find a site with LOTS of shade, you will need it!!
This park gets heavy use and day use. Make reservations as early as possible.
We have a video of our most recent stay.

Nice clean and beautiful state park. Bath houses were clean and well maintained. Not crowded but it was the second week of December. Park staff were friendly and helpful. Texas state parks are a great way to go, inexpensive for camping with hookups. We didn't have sewer but used the dump station the day before we left. All of the sites we saw were concrete pads with fire pit and grill and big aluminum picnic tables. It is a hilly area so some leveling is required.
We saw deer around our site and other places in the park every day.
Our 5G hotspot gave us adequate internet and our phones had no problems with data or calls. Quite a few over the air TV stations too.
We would love to come back in warmer weather.

This sis great state park very close to Dallas. All the restrooms and campsites are clean and well maintained. This park has plenty of trails for hiking and bikinging and also connects to the State Park greenbelt. Plenty of places to ride bikes, ride horses and hike! The lake is very accessible for kayaks, canoes, and fishing.
