We pulled in about noon on a Saturday. Two of the four sites in our loop were occupied by trucks with boat trailers. We had all four sites reserved. A call to the state park staff went to voice mail and was never returned. The illegally parked vehicles weren't moved until the hours around sundown. This is but one of the disappointments from this trip.
The trees in the loop need attention. There are numerous dead branches on the trees. One of them was hidden by live leaves and ripped up my air conditioner. I've passed through light branches with leaves a few times, but this was my lucky day to have a dead branch in the mix. There was no way to go around it as it was hanging down right in the middle of the "road" in the loop. Normally I boondock and bring a chainsaw and sawzall. But this was a campground and mistakenly assumed it was maintained.
The attendant at the main entrance was surly and unmotivated when we checked in.
An off-road vehicle (four door RZR) drove between our site and the shoreline. I can't find anything that indicates that an ORV is allowed in that area. It's a good thing the kids weren't playing on the shoreline when that happened.
This campground isn't the last campground along the road. There are two more. But it sure feels like you're at the end of the (very dusty) road.
The map/brochure published by the state park leads you to believe that the dump station is on the north side of Glendo Park Road with the Ranger Station. It's actually on the south side of the road, separate from the Ranger Station.
The dump station is great! No complaints there. If you don't want to get drinking water at the dump station, there is a spigot near Cottonwood Campground on the left side of the road towards Indian Point. The main map/brochure doesn't call this out but the map for the Cottonwood Campground does. There is no spigot at Indian Point.
I would be careful about bringing a large motorhome into the 13-16 loop. The circle is somewhat tight and a long rig could get hung up on the lip coming off of the dirt road. Sited 1-12 would work great for big rigs and there were a couple there.
HighPlainsCamper would stay here again
