The road in is a little bumpy in spots, but there was plenty of level ground to camp. A handful of shaded areas, but none I wanted to pull our Class A into, although I'm sure you could. I had hoped for a shaded spot to block the sun, but it didn't matter. There was a beautiful breeze that kept us cool enough in the daytime without the A/C. It was way too muddy to go down to the water, but that didn't stop our boys. They had a blast trudging along in the mud and getting stuck, and we had a blast watching them.
You can tell this is a spot for ATV's because there are tracks everywhere, but we only saw 1 or 2, and never actually heard them. At night one of the Jackson Hole locals, who turned out to be a Japanese reality TV star (no joke, he shared the videos) came by our site on a dirt bike and asked to warm his feet by our campfire. He told us about a hot spring down by the water that only surfaces every once in a long while. We never ventured down to it, but it just added to the intrigue to the place.
10 or so minutes down the road is a gas station with dump site, plus a number of local bars, restaurants, post office, hardware store, etc.
We would definitely camp here again, assuming it wasn't too crowded. Awesome spot!

Not very scenic at that point, then add to it the hundreds of dirt bikes and quads running around stirring up all sorts of dust... well, we moved on after only a single night. Right across the highway is Forest Rd 281 with 10X better camping spots along a nice rambling creek.Unless you like dust and trash that is, then you will like it at this spot.

This is a really neat area to camp in because it offers so many options for your campsite. The road comes straight off of US Hwy 26, so it is very easy to find and access. The main road then goes straight toward the reservoir for a miles or two. As you drive down the road there will be small secluded campsites tucked into trees and dirt road shooting off to the sides were more primitive campsites can be found. As you get closer to the water there are some really big flat grassy campsites that can accommodate big groups (we saw 6 fivers comfortably in one) and then finally you get to the rocky area right on the water were we chose to stay. It is my understanding that the water in spring is very high and these sites are underwater, but around Labor Day when we were there the water had uncovered tons of water front camping opportunities.
This area is very popular, particularly among OHVer's. On Labor Day there were dozens of dirt bikes, ATV's and other vehicles bounding around the mud and hard packed dirt of the waterfront areas. They gave us a pretty wide berth, even though we were right in a prime off-roading area, and it was mainly just families and kids having a good time - no complaints here.
The area as a whole is really big and despite there being at least 50 other rigs there at the peak of the holiday weekend, there was still plenty of space to far from your neighbors. The downside to the popularity is the litter. There was an incomparable amount of trash here, we cleaned 4 full trash bags worth and it barely made a dent but it was all we were able to haul out so we had to stop.
The bird watching is really good here too, lots of pelicans live here and we saw a few adolescent bald eagles. There is a make shift boat ramp that is really just an old road that was covered by the reservoir. At this time of year it was uncovered enough to work really well as a ramp, we saw people launching a variety of sizes of boats using this road.
This was a great place for us to spend a week getting work done, but if you're looking for seclusion this may not be for you. The cell service is good and gets better the closer you get to the water.

We stayed here thanks to the reviews we read here and we're so glad we did! We arrived on a Saturday evening and didn't have a hard time finding a spot, although there were about 20 other people camped here. By Sunday night it was just us and one other trailer (about 400 yards away) for the next two nights.
We chose a spot very close to the water and enjoyed taking our chairs down to the water's edge at sunset for happy hour. If you have a kayak or SUP you'll love this place! The one downside is that there aren't many hiking options directly from the campsite as the woods around are so thick and there aren't any defined trails. The gorgeous views, privacy and reliable cell service more than made up for that issue though. We had 2 bars of LTE without the booster, and 3 bars with the booster. Speeds were good enough for video calls without an issue.
The roads throughout the area are very driveable with just a few potholes. Very infrequently you can hear trucks driving on the nearby road (using their engine breaks as they come down the hill) but it was very faint.

We have never had trouble getting our big rig in, although watch out for dips and ruts in the road. Lots of bird watching, and the flowers in summer are beautiful. There is a boat dock, and a few more locals will show up on the weekends. The closest town is Alpine, Wy at about 15 miles.
You can camp right next to the lake if you choose to. There were mosquito's in some places however.
