“Don't stay here alone”

okay, truth be told I spent the night at a picnic area a few miles before this stop, but I have to say that this area as a whole may not the safest place to spend the night. Initially everything was fine: it's a little bit loud with semi trucks passing by but I slept fine until I was woken up to someone trying to break into my car. A girl obviously not in her right mind had been left there by somebody and was trying to steal my car to drive back to San Antonio. I called the cops, and when they arrived they told me that they been there earlier that same morning for a homeless person who'd been digging through the garbage (this all happened around 6:30am). They also let me know that in the past five years there's been one murder and a suicide in that exact picnic area and advised me to stay at a gas station instead if I ever stopped in the area again.
If you're travelling alone or with kids, it would be worth getting a hotel or just keep driving.

“Ok spot to sleep for the night”

This wasn't the best picnic area we have passed to sleep. It is a road that parallels the highway for about a mile with 2 turnouts on it.

If you do stay here I recommend stopping at the first turn out if there is room, otherwise the semi's are hauling ass to get up speed before getting back on the highway. So needless to say it wasn't very quiet.

On a plus side you still get decent cell reception here, and it is a close spot to sleep if you want to explore the San Antonio Missions. Which is a fun day if you bike the River Walk to them. There is also a big grass area to walk the dog and stretch your legs a bit.
