We are here 2-3 times a week as day campers. We love this place. Really great place to learn about ocean and related eco-systems.

* Family and friends will have to pay for day passes. I think there's a 3rd camp site pass? You can only have 2 cars per site, but they have public parking.
* You will have to pay pet fees
* This is a public beach and people pay to get in. The weekends are very busy and I had to hold up traffic on the main road to back in my trailer. The rest of the week was quiet
* Be careful, we did find quite a bit of glass on the beach. Enough to fill up a large cup.
* The restrooms are for everyone in the park. Need I say more?
* Showers have codes for campers. They were shoddy and not exactly clean.
* No water hookups, but they have potable water by the playground
* Cell service from AT&T was excellent
* It's easy to launch kayaks from just about anywhere on the beach
* It was windy every day, which I expect being near the beach.
* There is a military base close by and they fly their choppers throughout the day.
Overall this is not a campground I would ever visit again. I don't like having to follow 3 pages of rules in order to enjoy a camping experience. All of my years camping I've never left a bad review.

Sounds of Freedom... yes there is continuous helicopter and training jet sound. We enjoyed it for the one night we were here. Probably would be a nuisance if we were visiting as a beach destination. For us it was a stopover and very interesting. Rate reflects $24 electric camping fee and $5 for single dog. As indicated, dogs are restricted to your rig and the campgrounds. No beach or even walking to the day areas. Internet was responsive and digital tv had 90+ channels. We are headed to the sister city park, Hanna, across the water tomorrow. Great location to explore Amelia Island and the state parks, Amelia Island and Fort Clinch. Wanted to stay at Fort Clinch but could not get in. Also good base location for biking on Timucuan and Amelia Island bike trails.

Overall this is a very nice location, however it can be very loud between 8am and 10pm with helicopters flying past every few minutes which are very loud. Also use caution booking sites, a lot of these sites are very soft sand, we originally had site C booked but upon arrival we were told we would like get stuck even though it was reservable as an “rv site”. Upon inspection the site was deeply rutted and very wet. There’s no way we could pull onto it even with our 21ft van. They basically just said “good luck, and if you get stuck your responsible for a tow truck to get you out” luckily we were able to get them to switch us to a better site (47) after having a look around the campsite. Id call to confirm site conditions prior to booking as there are NO REFUNDS. Also dump station was flooded so we couldn’t use that. Only two showers for entire campground which seemed minimal. Bathrooms had two stalls each. One was broken. Only one spot to fill potable water which isn’t very accessible especially if your in a big rig. Overall if you have a smaller rig you’ll likely be fine but any big rigs be aware this isn’t the best spot for you!

Don't use the water by the dump for drinking!!! There is no sign that says "not potable". Staff wanted to argue that since it says no rv washing I should attune not potable. I hope they put up a sign soon!
Paddle water is in another circle abs you will need a50 for house to teach it with a large rv.

Well we only stayed for two nights but overall we really enjoyed this campground. We were initially slated to stay at site G (one of the few along the water on the road into the main campground) but quickly found that G wouldn't work — all of the sites in that row have pretty soft sand and that wasn't going to play well with our 20k lbs 30ft Class A. Long story short, we ended up getting site 47 which overlooked the water (on tougher ground) and really enjoyed that. The weather at Huguenot ('hyoog-not', I think) can be a little finicky throughout the day like many Atlantic-coast towns (windy, sunny, cloudy, all in one day!) but the beach and wildlife are wonderful and we'd definitely come back and stay a week or two in the future.
That said, it's not close to much! If you need groceries or utilities it'll be about a 30 minute drive. Additionally, if you're trying to stay off highways in general (we try to stick to secondary / state routes and highways) then some of the roads you'll go through in Jacksonville can be small and very rough. Not Huguenot's fault though! Just a heads up.
Yes, helicopter traffic is real. You will see the navy base across the water (which we thought was neat) and watch plenty of absolutely HUGE tankers and ships go by every day, but overall we weren't bothered. The helicopter flights were only our first night there and stopped around 10pm, the rest of our stay there were only a few flights passing by and it was during typical daylight hours.
Great AT&T cell service!

- No water hookups, water fill station isn't super convenient
- Sand spurs everywhere...would not want to bring a dog here
- Showers were good, just need more places to hang things or place soap while showering
- Lots of trash along the beach, but I guess that is just all beaches these days :(
- Be prepared for lots of sand, it's the beach after all :) some sites are more sandy than others
- Noise from helicopters at Mayport
- Nice, new playground
- Good dump station
- Good fishing

For those of you traveling with pets, you need to be aware of the terrain. Dogs not allowed on the beach, which we understood and did not have a big problem with. The problem is where to walk the dog because there are sand spurs everywhere! My poor dog could not step off the sidewalk without getting spurs stuck in her paws. There is no dog friendly area to walk. Every time I took her for a walk, I had to repeatedly stop and pull painful spurs out of her paws. By the third day, she was scared to go on the grass which made it very difficult to get her to do her business. We were glad to leave! That being said, if you don't have pets but have kids, it is probably a nice place. Not the best kept but ok. Didn't find the noise to be a problem. It was too cold to enjoy the beach and the sites were a little too close and exposed for our taste. Also, like everyone said, no water hookup which was a big inconvenience. We were in site 16. The dunes pretty much block the view and you can't walk on the dunes so you still have to walk to the beach access point. Lots of families but we are just a retired couple so not our best experience. Also, it is kind of isolated except for a circle K.
