We stayed at the Horse Springs campground in early September, campsite # 21 in the Polecat Loop. We paid $7.00 per night with our America the Beautiful Senior Pass. Both loops of this campground are nestled in the tall ponderosa pines along the banks of the East Fork Black River. The campsites are well spaced with plenty of privacy, vault toilets, water, and trash containers are available. Each site has a new picnic table and fire ring. The campground is located northwest of Alpine, Arizona. Take Highway 191 north of Alpine, turn on to Three Forks Road (Forest Road 249) for approximately 4 miles, turn left on to Forest Road 276. Forest Road 276 is a gravel road with wash boarding and a few pot holes, at approximately 10 1/2 miles (45 minutes) the Horse Springs campground Porcupine Loop is located on the left. Polecat Loop is located on the left of Forest Road 276 at mile-marker 11. Porcupine Loop contains sites 1 thru 15, Polecat Loop contains sites 16 thru 27. The campground is well maintained, clean, and peaceful, site 21 is the closest camp site to the river.
