Not me, the campground. Bathhouses range from decrepit to “modern”. It was rainy while we were there, and I know that makes it hard to keep them clean with all the sand reached in, but they really need updated. Sites are close with logs on the ground to separate you from your neighbor.

That said, hiking trails are short, but connect so one can get a 5-mile hike in. Mountain bike trails look good. Road bikers have a paved path from the park to Lake Jackson and around, about 18 mi rt.
Good Verizon and OTA tv from sites.

I love Florida State Parks and I was excited to visit the oldest one in the state. I hope that with the changes they say they are getting ready to implement, that our next visit will be better. As soon as we arrived and plugged into shore power, it showed a reversed polarity. I unplugged and contacted the park rangers. They came out, glanced over it and dismissed it as “the park need new electric poles and this is no big deal.” I felt dismissed but decided to take their word for it and try it. It wasn’t long before the whole plug and my cord where hot to the touch. I called them back out and they agreed that it was faulty and replaced the 30amp plug. I had no problems with the electric after that.
We camped on site #99 with our 30ft TT and while the site was large enough for us to fit, we were cramped with neighbors just feet away on 3 of the 4 sides. There are just too many sites in this park. The rangers said that there is a plan to replace the electric and reduce the number of some of the sites in 2023. If they carry out this plan, this can be a really nice park again.
There are several appealing things about this park like the numerous long trails through the forested areas and the incredible tram ride! I was also surprised by the large gift store/small grocery. The rangers are also really knowledgeable about the local wildlife and they have a small education trailer that they open up to all who are there.

Noise is very bad since all sites are so close in proximity... dogs, children, and neighbors conversations can all be heard from more than 5 spots away. There was a constant buzz of activity throughout the day.
Tight access if you're RV is much larger than 26 feet. The row I was in all sites were perpendicular to the road, not angled for ease of access
Fire rings in odd location, Ours was right next to the site borderline, only about 15 feet away from the neighbors.
Facilities are dated and tired, useable but desperately need a remodel.
T-Mobile cell coverage was 3-4 bars of LTE consistent, able to stream with minimal interruptions.
Decent trail network to explore though quite short in lengths.

I think this is a nice place to stay IF it’s not a holiday or packed for whatever reason. I was sandwiched between a dozen or more people renting multiple tent sites and they kept their three, untrained dogs outside 24/7. When I tried to leave my camper (forget sitting outside) to walk my dog, all three dogs would bark and holler until one person sprayed them with water to stop! On the other side of me was an arrogant camper who tied HIS dog out on a 15’ ft lead so he ran up to my dog growling and bumping him. I’m really weary of this life with rude campers. So I basically waited out the Labor Day weekend to be able to enjoy except somehow I contracted Covid which I did report it to Ranger’s Station.

Stopped here for a few nights on the way south. Outdated for sure but the staff works very hard to keep the place clean. Very nice and helpful staff. Overall it’s a decently quiet place to stay for the money. The sites can be close to each other but it’s not ridiculous close. We would stay again for a stop over.

A decent state park overall with neat trails to go on and a nice Civilian Conservation Corps museum. It's Florida's first state park, opened in 1935, and the facilities in the campground are definitely showing their age.
The campsites vary greatly in size and shape, so getting a spot may be trickier if you have a larger rig not just due to the site but also access to it. Most sites are right on top of one another so there zero privacy.
The bathrooms are all quite outdated and in disrepair although the team tries to keep them clean. (A more modern bathroom building exists, but as of March 2022, it's closed for repairs.) The water connections and electric hookups at each site are old and many are in need of replacement soon.
The trails are nice, all of them are quite short but there are enough to make a day of it as you travel from trailhead to trailhead. You could walk the whole thing if you're up for it, but it makes for a nice bike ride, too, since there are bike racks at each trailhead.
Also, consider taking the tram tour since you get to see parts of the park that are restricted to the public. When we took it, we saw a lot of wildlife, including alligators, turtles, birds, and deer.
Overall, I'd like to give this park a higher rating, but the aging infrastructure of the campground really needs to be addressed. So maybe 4 stars for the park as day use, but only 3 stars if you're staying there.

Old bathhouses 2 of 4 we're closed. The open ones were in serious need of updating and repair. Extremely close campsites with ok picknick tables.
Camp store is exceptional, well stocked with a variety of a little bit of everything you might need plus souvenirs, clothes and ice cream.
This place could be nice with some staffing as repairs and updating are needed. The park itself is typical Florida state park nature at its best.
Not for old folk during a school vacation week but then no state park really is.
