Many time visitor to this wonderful traditional camping experience in the woods. Hurricane damage was extensive. Sites have been cleared but hugh piles of wood debris surround you. The sites have been leveled but with fine sand which has not had time to pack in. Boardwalk along the spring is newly rebuilt and is a delight to wander through the cypress grove. Canoes and kayaks are available to rent to get close to the manatees.

Stayed 3 nights. Great hiking and biking trails. Restrooms clean. Camping site spacious and well maintained. Great place to stay and relax. Saw Manatees, and lots of other wild life. If you have Verizon, service is not great. Download movies prior to arriving if that is your thing. AT&T does work.

This is a beautiful state park. Our RV site was in the Hickory Loop with water and electric only. The bath house was close and adequate...although I wish all parks would install doors that lock for showers instead of just curtains. Our site was large, wooded, and in a natural setting (on dirt). A picnic table and fire ring was available. We were visited by deer, squirrels, and raccoons. The spring was beautiful and we did see Manatees. We did not have cell service and there was no wifi. But if you walked to the store next to the spring, you could use their wifi while in that area. Some great walking and biking trails and kayaks were allowed in the spring out to the river. Lots of ticks.....so be prepared!
Overall a great get-away park for short term!

Manatee Springs was the third of the Florida State Parks we visited over the course of the past month. We found much to enjoy at each park, and here it was the beautiful boardwalk along the spring and the opportunity to kayak with the manatees. We observed them from the boardwalk and then decided the only way to really experience them was on the water. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent and so worth the time and money. The spring is crystal clear and we were able to float alongside these majestic creatures as they traveled around the spring. We even spent time observing a mom and her calf.
As far as the park itself, the road into the Hickory loop was quite a bumpy adventure along a sandy pothole-filled road - use caution! We were in sites 65 & 66 which were shady and spacious, but could use some work to make them more level. The bathrooms were not great as they were dirty by day's end (possibly due to the campground being dirt and sand) and the hot water never got really hot but was adequate.
This is in a rather remote area of Florida, and you seriously cannot get Verizon service unless you go to the concession area where there is usually a crowd attempting to find coverage and then it is spotty. So, plan on unplugging and just enjoying nature while you are here.

Manatee Springs State Park is a good place to stop on your way to somewhere else, but not as a final destination. The campground consists of 2 different loops. Magnolia has been remodeled recently and has hook-ups. Hickory is in desperate need of updating or at the very least some upkeep. We stayed in Hickory which is closer to the Springs. Luckily we were in site 75; 74 has the path to the springs right behind it.
On the plus side, all of the sites are large; we didn't have to worry about embers from the fire pit landing on our easy-up. Each site in Hickory includes a fire pit and picnic table. I would avoid this loop during warm weather...I imagine the mosquitos are horrendous in warmer weather being so close to the sinkhole called "Catfish Hotel".
Don't even think about putting up a utility tent for a luggable loo...the ranger came by and told us we had to take it down, even though we had no water in it. We completely understand the worry about gray water. The ironic thing was that, even though they seemed to be so worried about gray water, they didn't provide a place to wash dishes.
The bathroom, which again was in desperate need of updating, was clean. The floor never seemed to get dry; the volunteer said she wasn't able to figure out how to get it dry when it was humid.
Our original reservation was for 6 nights; we cut it short due to illness. I didn't expect a refund, but we were refunded for the 3 nights we didn't stay. Quiet hours are from 11-7 and that was adhered to by the guests. The site didn't appear to be raked between guests.
Verizon service was limited: we were able to send and receive texts but when I attempted to phone my husband when I was in town, the connection was not good.

I spoke to a ranger today, 2/18/21, and he told me the Hickory Loop is now only for tents. They've been transitioning that loop to tent-only for the past year, and you can no longer make RV/Trailer reservations for those sites.
