Harrison Bay State Park is a nice state park with 4 campground loops – 3 with partial hookups (W/E) and 1 for tent camping only. Each loop has sites along the water, with the ones in Loop A being short. We stayed in site #10 in the A loop, which is a mostly level, back in site with an asphalt pad, fire ring and picnic table. Most of the campsites in loop A have decent space between sites, but not ours. Utilities for site 11 are right next to the camp side of site 10, leaving zero privacy. Backing into the site with our 42’ 5th wheel was difficult as the roads are tight, and we had to park our truck to the side of the RV. Getting to our site was a bit nerve wracking as we had to maneuver the entire loop with our big rig to be facing the right direction to back in.
The campsites in Loop B & C are mostly very unlevel and close together. We would not have been able to maneuver our size RV through the loops, much less be able to level it.
There is a bath house in each loop, and the one on Loop A is extremely clean. It is layed out where the shower, toilet and sink are all in one room. There is a playground located in Loop A as well, also with a large field for playing ball, tennis courts, horseshoes, and a spot to put in kayaks. There are several trails on site and a nice picnic area for hanging out or fishing from the bank.
There are numerous deer that roam the campgrounds as well.
Both our T-Mobile home internet and Verizon phone coverage worked well.
The campground is close to Chattanooga, which has many things to do. I recommend visiting Rock City Gardens, the Chattanooga Market open on Sundays, and walking across the downtown pedestrian Walnut St Bridge. I also recommend dining at The Local Goat in Ootlewah, Clumpies Ice Cream in downtown Chattanooga, and Countryside Café in Ootlewah.
Overall, this was a nice state park, but we would not visit again in a rig our size. Loop A is great for anything 36’ or less, and I personally would not stay in Loop B or C.

I only walked around areas A & part of B, so there might be some great sites in C & D and the lower end of B. Check in was easy in the A Frame building. A map was given and we found our site relatively easily enough. Very tight turn at the end of A by sites 36 & 37 - would not recommend it for larger trailers or RVs. Our Imagine is 22' and it was tight but fine (our truck is long). Level site with a fence around the picnic / patio area. The other two sites next to us were nice, but I think our site was the best! A40-47 are all decent, but much closer together. Our view was completely lake! 40-47's were more views of the neighbors. Site A1-14 were just in a big grassy area - nothing to write home about. And a lot of the B sites were close together and no great view.
And there is a new dog park between area B & Fishing Pier Road!

Even hard I got parked, it would have been 6-8 inches off level side to side. If you are over 24 feet long, stay out of B and C loops. A loop is reasonable but depending on the site, plan on extra leveling efforts. Roads in all loops are narrow, winding and steep in places. Even the exit road is a tight turn. I will be leaving against traffic on the one way road. The propane guy up the road is nice and handy. Played 9 holes at the golf course and had a great time. Lastly the trip to Chattanooga Whiskey is worth it!!!

This was our first trip to HBSP. It was nearby (we live in Knoxville) and we were desperate to get away for a few days so we could work and relax after a very busy summer. All in all I like HBSP. It is convenient to both Ooltewah and Chattanooga so you are not far away from any necessary trips to a bigger metropolitan area. The park has four camping loops (A, B, C and D). We stayed in B loop. Both A and B are generally used for RV/travel trailers. Loop C was both tents and campers and Loop D is for tents. The access roads to Loop A, B and C are smaller and some of the turns are a little tight. We did a drive through of Loop A and found that it is much more amenable to larger travel trailers and fifth wheels. It is also the loop that sits on the waterfront and has mostly paved and flat sites, although there are several that you will need to do some leveling of your camper. Loop B (our loop) is amenable to smaller trailers and campers although there were several larger ones here as well. There are no level sites on Loop B so be prepared to do some serious leveling of your camper. I do not recommend any outside loop spots as those are slanted and none seem to be level. I saw several trailers jacked to their max and still were not level. Most of the inside pull through sites are easier to level and I would recommend those. The bathhouse is convenient and well maintained. The wifi was not working in Loop B and we couldn't get it to work unless we were standing next to the check-in house. Still, we had decent cell signal so using our Verizon Jet Pack worked just fine and both the wife and I were able to do our remote work without any problem. The campground is a fairly popular spot and even during the work week there were quite a few patrons. But it was quiet and sparse enough that we found it to be very enjoyable and not seem crowded at all (al la the weekends). Loop A is always packed so keep that in mind. The water views on Loop A are great and we have reserved a water spot there for next September. I will definitely come back to HBSP. The staff is amazing and I really enjoyed our time here. It is a great remote work environment.

I have no bad things to say about this park and if we are in the area we will stay again. Also some sites are very tight and hard to get into but manageable.
The rangers were very nice and helped us find a new spot when the spot we booked was too small for our rig.

There are a few Loops and A seemed to have the most space between sites and easily accessible for our big rig. The other loops were nice but some where close and not level. We had a back-in water and electric site. With a large shade tree. We enjoyed the deer roaming through our site and hiking around the lake. There are some really cool lake side sites, most to small for our 36 footer but would be good for a smaller rig. The sites were asphalt with cement pads under the picnic tables and has fire pits. They have Wi-Fi but it’s really slow moat of the time.

Harrison Bay State Park had plenty of signage so finding the campground (CG) just needed to read the signs as you got in the state park area. We stopped at the office area and checked in then proceeded to C loop back-in site C23 with water and 50/30 AMP. We had read the reviews and were prepared for the tight turns and close sites on C loop. When we got to site C23 there were cars and a truck parked across the street making the turn even tighter . We backed in to this very unlevel site that was just long enough for our 39’ 5th wheel. When we booked on line the site was advertised as 51’. Fortunately, there was a parking spot across the road for our truck. We used most of our levelers on the door side to level. Water pressure was good and we got 3 bars on Verizon and 1 bar on AT&T. The CG has WiFi but it didn’t work very well. We got quite a few OTA channels but only one prime. As this loop has a lot of mature trees, satellite would be iffy. We had a nice water view and direct access to the water. We would not recommend anything over 35’ in this loop especial when the CG is full. B loop is for smaller trailers/rigs and D loop is for tents. We checked out A loop and immediately saw the difference as A is set up for larger rigs and looks newer. Area A also has premium sites with a patio. There’s a large grass area and ball field as you enter and we liked site A15, which is on the water enough you could park your kayak below you site plus plenty of area to walk the dogs. In the premium area we liked A38 that’s off a loop at the end where we could swing a 39’ rig around to back-in. Other good sites all in A loop for larger rigs with water view/access would be 30 & 31. If your RV is more than 35 feet go to A Loop, especially if you are a beginner. Also recommend you call the park to verify if your rig size can fit in a site, as the dimensions online seem to be inaccurate. This state park has a lot to offer and overall we enjoyed the experience.
