We love it here. Not because there is anything to do but walk and bike, but because we visit our cats memorial. She walked away last year, she was 17 and it was her time. So we come to remember our Trixie!
Lots of space and good roads

Map signs also call it Haeckel Rd.
Easy flat access on a paved road. Tons of good flat areas to choose from. We pulled over just where the pavement turned to dirt. Quiet with gorgeous views of the mountains. We had a quick stay to visit nearby Clinton. A wonderful mining town.

We saw about four campers on our way in. At our spot on the loop, we have 360 degree views of the mountains and Prairie. The site is mostly clean and we picked up a small trash bag full of old shotgun shells.
This is a really beautiful spot.

Nice quiet place for rock hounding within view of an AZ state prison to the north. Lots of trash around.

I saw others further down the gravel road (go straight at curve, down hill). Not much for signage, there were signs along the paved road that said basically no vehicles off the road. Nice scenery, flat and level in this large area. 2 bars ATT LTE, I could steam YouTube and make calls with no problem.

We camped here for 10 days, and had an excellent experience! Countless places to camp, and easy access from a blacktop road. We drove about 7 miles in on Hackel Road west of Highway 191/70 and were completely alone. We passed several others, those who obviously preferred to have neighbors. BLM Ranger was friendly and guided us to a beautiful, almost level spot a little further in, after he informed us we parked where we weren't supposed to. Pretty much zero noise with only an occasional vehicle driving by. Night sky was incredible, thanks to Safford's low level lighting ordinances for nearby observatory. Only negatives were a little mess (which we cleaned up) and a sketchy cell signal for our Verizon phones. We will definitely return here if we are ever near Safford again!

Heard some coyotes at night. During the day we did a bumpy bike ride and enjoyed the warm sunshine. It got windy at night. We were able to stream on AT&T data with no problem.
This space is huge. Maybe ten rigs total and no one was on top of each other. It was well worth the stop and easy to access and best yet, free!

We stayed here one night before going to Roper Lake. Hackle Road is paved. Most campers go straight down the dirt side road for camping spots. We went further and turned left before the power lines. Great area with a lot of spots. Plus, you’ve got a great view of Mt. Graham.

You know when you find a really great Boondocking spot and you want to keep it a secret? This would be one of those places. Quiet, well spaced locations for Boondocking. Most locations are far enough from the main road for dust to not be an issue. Safford is close by and seems to have everything needed. The spot we stayed in was the cleanest Boondocking site we have ever encountered. We made sure we left it the same way we found it. Great cell reception (3+ bars) on both ATT and Verizon. Scenic vistas in all directions.
