A camping dream if you’re a tent camper. RV sites are few and no big rigs. We got our 22’ into site 1 with enough room to keep the truck hooked up and off the road. The camp is divided into 3 sections, all three have paths to the Sturgeon River. Our site had shade trees on one side and grassy field on the other. Neighbors were very quiet and respectful. Got here at 12:15 PM on a Friday and I got the last site available, come early if you want a chance of staying here.

(Didn’t use either) Lot of separation and vegetation between sites, some back up to the river. Stayed second week of September and less than a third full on a perfect weather weekend. Only drawback is some noise from the expressway.

We chose this campground in an attempt to avoid Labor Day crowds because it was away from everything. We chose this campground in an attempt to avoid Labor Day crowds because it was away from everything. If that's what you're looking for, this is a great spot! 6 of the 18 spots were empty over the Labor Day weekend. There are a few places you can access the Sturgeon River, site 2 being one of them.
Sites are gravel & grass and are fairly level. The only amenities are fire rings, garbage, pit toilets, and a hand pump for water. The little town of Wolverine has a post office and a small market, but if you want to do a big grocery shop Indian River is your best bet. There is a "rails to trails" bike path in front of the campground and you can easily ride your bike into Wolverine. Internet was fast enough for streaming video.
This is a State DNR campground, which requires a "Passport" fee for your vehicle ($9/day or $31 for an annual pass for out-of-state vehicles in 2016), so if you're planning to visit MI state parks for more than 3 days then buying the annual pass will save you money.
