Question about Gros Ventre Campground

Ron F asked on 1/12/2022

Recreation.gov says all of the electric sites are 50 amp at Gros Ventre Campground - are they ONLY 50 amp, or can I plug in 30 amp? Thanks!

I worked at Gros Ventre last year. The D loop is the only loop with power. Each power box has (1) 50 amp socket, (1) 30 amp socket and (1) 20 amp 110 socket with two outlets.

If you have a “dog bone” adapter for the plug you can. You have to be able to adapt your plug to the 50 amp receptacle.

We stayed in a site with no hookups. Typically if it’s a 50amp hookup you would need a “dog bone” to convert your 30amp plug to the 50amp socket. They’re fairly inexpensive and easy to find at places like WalMart. And it would certainly come in handy in future camping trips so you never have to worry about it again!

We never look for 50 because we only ever need 30, so definitely there were 30 amp plugs there. Loved it there!

I had the same question on pulling in, but figured I’d end up not getting a site with power. Upon securing a powered site, it had 50/30/15A connections available.

I can’t recall now if there was also a 30amp plug but otherwise, get a 30amp to 50amp adapter, you can get at Walmart. That will work! We use 30amp And we stayed there with no problem!

I don't know, we never got a site in the CG just stayed in the amphitheater parking lot, BTW not a bad option for boondocker. But the solution is to just get a 30 to 50 amp adapter https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Plug-Adapters/Mighty-Cord/A10-5030FHVP.html then it becomes a moot point from there on out. I always carry one. Tom

We used a regular extension cord with 30amp tail and that worked fine for us

I camped at Gros Ventre a couple summers ago, and none of the sites I saw had any hookups... no water, no electric. However, there was water available. The sites were first come, first served, but there are quite a few sites. However, in answer to your question: I would have sufficient adapters to hook into anything from 110 to 50 amp... just to be prepared.

You can always plug in a 30 amp cord with the appropriate converter (commonly called a dogbone). Go to Amazon and search for "50 amp to 30 amp rv adapter" to see what's available.
