We stayed starting Labor Day. I booked our site a year in advance, a pull-thru in Area 4 that looked OK online. It was very tight getting around and into our site, and getting out pulling through was impossible, so we backed out. That was an adventure, to say the least. The site itself was very nice, some trees for a little outdoor shade, and bushes for privacy. The 30-amp electric hookup left a bit to be desired. Voltage very low, even when not running anything. Our EMS shut us off several times when it dropped below 104 volts. It was muggy and warm the week we were there starting on Labor Day. We have a good solar array and it was better to shut off their electric and run our main AC off the batteries, then recharge at night when the voltage miraculously went up. The park itself is nice, everything was clean. Area 1 had room for the largest rigs, Area 2 is built on a hill with sites very close together and very un-level in some cases. Site lengths on ReserveAmerica seem accurate, but getting into and out of them could be challenging, so check Google earth views carefully. We would love to return, but would try for Area 1 next time. Showers were fairly new and clean, 75 cents for 3 minutes, $1.50 for 6, we didn't use them. Outside showers free, we assume they're cold water only and you'd have to wear a suit, NO nudity allowed in the campground. Some of the rules made us chuckle and/or shake our heads. We got 12 OTA channels on TV, and had good cell/data service on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

This is our go to campground in Rhode Island. Area 1 is for self contained unit’s only. Full hook ups. Area 4 has water and electric with a bathhouse and showers. Bring quarters. Plan ahead as it’s a tough park to get into.

Enjoyed our stay at this State Park. Most sites were in the open but you didn't feel you were too close to your neighbors. Some sites had shade trees. Our site was fairly level side to side but could be a challenge front to back. We had a fire ring, table, 30 amp/Water and sewer. Water pressure was a little ow but nothing that caused issues. Bathrooms were very clean and well kept. All the RV sites were pull through. First time I saw that in a state park! State park beaches were pretty close with reasonable admission. Restaurants nearby and Newport and Narragansett a short drive. While I didn't see any bicycle trails in the area, the roads are pretty quiet on while we were there (midweek) with very wide shoulders. The park had limited, tide dependent access to water for kayaks at the end of a long parking lot. There was nothing to indicated that that was actually a launch area though. Only negative was the price for a shower, $1.25 for 6 minutes. We are already talking about returning next year. .

Big bummer was this section did not have a bath house. so we had a pretty long walk and also the showers were coin operated. This seemed like a bad thing but once I paid my $1.50 the shower was nice and warm and 6 minutes was more then enough time to get nice and clean. It is a nice area and plenty to see and do nearby. Iggy's is a great place to pick up lunch. RI residents get a great deal, visitors pay for it.

Our rate ($45 + taxes/fees) is reflective of our non-Rhode Island resident status.
Our stay in area 4 during weekdays in the summer was pleasant. The sites in this loop are more 'rustic' than those in loops 1,2,3. Area 4 provides 30A and water as well as dirt/grass pads. Our site was a long pull-through with bushes/vegetation separating us from other campsites; it was great. We were directly across from the bathhouse, but since the park charges (quarters) for hot showers (cold, free outdoor showers also available there) that area wasn't very busy.
There is road noise here kicking up early in the morning and into the evening - a surprising amount for the size of the road, but that is likely due to it being the only road to and from the local neighborhoods and marinas.
There isn't much 'to do' in the campground/park itself. The water access is extremely limited, as are the views of the water. A canoe/kayak launch is available. There is a playground.
While most of the sites in area 4 were level or level enough to get level - even for a big rig - we did note that many of the sites in the other areas were not. I would personally refrain from reserving any of sites 54-65 (area 2) due to their slope if you are a rig that has a wheelbase longer than 7-10 feet or if leveling is ever a concern for your rig.

Well kept state park campground—multiple loops. We stayed in loop 4 which is away from the water but which has more spacious sites which are often more private. The bathrooms were very clean and the showers worked well. The campground can serve as a base for exploring most of southern Rhode Island including Newport. We would stay again and pick loop 4 again unless we could get a site close to the water in loop 1. Many of the sites in loop 2 were on a dramatic slope.

We ended up getting a tourist shell fishing license prior to our arrival in Rhode Island, and we went to a marsh located down the street from our campground which is a known area to go shell fishing. We ended up catching clams and having them for dinner one night, we highly suggest doing this if its something you are interested in! It was so much fun and we sure got some good laughs doing it.
This area of Rhode Island is so gorgeous, we miss it already! No negatives to report!

I read the reviews and was excited to be in a state park on the water for such a reasonable price. Imagine my surprise when we found out that a water/electric site for an out of state camper was $45 per night! This was our first visit to a Rhode Island State Park so not sure if they are all like this but this one definitely caters to Rhode Island residents who camp in large RVs! The sites with the best views are the full hookups (water/electric/sewer) and the rates for out of state campers are significantly more than for residents. I’m used to paying $5 or even $10 more for being from out of state but here the fee is double or more for out-of-state campers. Geez – way to make us feel welcome!
There are four areas, and each has advantages and disadvantages. Area One has the best views and full hookups but there is no bathhouse; Area Two also has full hookups, no view and some of the sites (55-65) are decidedly not level; Area Three is for tents only with no hookups but is close to the bathhouse; Area Four has water and electric hookups, the pads are not paved (as in the others) but most of the sites have more separation than in the other sections. See the photo below to understand the different areas.
No matter where you camp, there are noise issues. Road noise continued throughout the night and there is a wind turbine on the property. I’ve never been this close to one and yes, there is noise, although the road noise bothered me more. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the campground. There are pay showers available. There are the remains of two bunkers but other than walking by them, you cannot go inside. One (in Area One) is a hill with stairs to a lookout.
On the plus side: The bathrooms were clean, there is excellent cell service, Judith Point lighthouse is nearby, it is close to the ferry to Block Island, and there are numerous recreation options available (playground, tennis courts, volleyball net and basketball courts). Also, the grouchy staffer I read about in reviews was not there the night we arrived and, in fact, the two staffers were very friendly and even recommended a good restaurant in the nearby town.

We agree with all the previous review here but would also like to add that even after being charged an extra $15 every night on top of the $20 nightly fee, just because we are non-Rhode Island residents, we still had to pay for showering in the restrooms.
25¢ for 60 seconds of water with a three minute minimum and there is no way to turn the water off to save it for when you are ready to rinse off. So at the very least you'll spend $1.50 for a very quick shower, 75¢ to get wet and 75¢ to rinse off. Unless you use the cold water rinse showers on the outside wall of the bathhouse, they are free. Seems a bit expensive for two people, imagine what a family of four would spend.
Even with all that we would stay here again, just be ready to ante up some $$$$$.
We visited this campground from 05/16/19 to 05/20/19.
