We picked this place do to location to NYC. We knew it would still be a drive, but we were fine with that since the city is obviously not RV friendly. But tbh this state park isn’t big rig friendly! We had to detour to get in because signs said no RV or trailers allowed. We had to go up some big hills and even our site was slanted making it difficult to get in and out. Other than all that we thought this campground was very quiet and beautiful. We enjoyed walking our dog and exploring the state park! Next time we come we would park in the 50 sites! I believe like site numbers 55, 56, 57 etc. bc they look level and more for bigger RVs (we seen a 30plus foot airstream) we definitely wouldn’t recommend trying to get a nice brand new RV in here that’s over 30 feet. We are a 31 foot class C motor home and we found it to be a challenge. Also look at the directions before you make the trip! It says the Taconic State Parkway is one of the most dangerous roads to drive on definitely with a RV and the low set bridges along the way is another thing to watch out for! As always safe travels fellow RVers!!

We arrived after the check in registration had closed. Check in at the Ranger's Station is on one side of the road and the campground is a 1/4 mile away on the opposite side of the road. Instructions on a kiosk upon entry to the campground said if you arrive late to check in the following day. The online reservations asked for what kind of camping we needed and we entered camper van. The site we found upon arrival was not camper van suitable as it was a walk in tent site. We found another site that the website, Reserve America, said was available on our Sunday arrival. Of note currently you need to make online reservations for this campground.
Both nights we stayed there we had loud neighbors: one with fireworks one night and loud partying after 10pm and smoking bonfires of marijuana the other night. We never saw a ranger or park personnel monitoring the park. On the positive side, it was relatively quiet during the day. The bathrooms had toilets that flushed and showers with hot water, however it looked like we missed cleaning day but it was tolerable.
We unfortunately filled our water tank on arrival not noticing the pink discoloration of the water until afterwards and then we asked what was with the pink tinged water the park attendant said it was "potassium permanganate" used to disinfect the water and she said it was perfectly safe to drink. If you google it you will find differing opinions on its safety.
It wasn't until the day we left that I actually saw what I thought might be a park attendant driving through the park. All in all it was a nice site, beautiful campground with no dumping facilities and a lot of regulations that aren't enforced.

I loved this place. The grounds were well maintained. The campsites were pretty well spaced apart. Clean shower and bathroom. Clean drinking water--Place to fill your water bottles and do your dishes.
