A big bus might need to pull in a mirror. The park lacks basic maintenance. There was litter in the lake and the grass area. The switch for power didn't even have a cover there were exposed wires a safety hazard..It's a large pond, not a lake. I wouldn't let my dogs swim. It was disgusting. The best part was the train tracks are about 500 ft from the park. There is a train crossing for the road into the park, which means the train blows its train whistle before and at the crossing. I can tell you that the whistle will wake you from a sound sleep. According to my watch, a train goes about every hour at night. I would not every stay at this place again

Decent spot for overnight or two. Pull in, find an open spot and go online to reserve or call number on entry sign. Water is fine. Some sites have good shade for warm weather. Only heard one train at 6pm.

We are in a motorhome and don't have dogs to walk, so we have no comments about goatheads. Never heard the train in the night, but selected a site toward the back just in case. $18 plus tax took us to $22 for full hookups. We had a nice view of the park and playground. Socorro is one freeway exit away for gas and a decent Walmart. Propane is available at the Conoco but access is tricky. We ended up lined up wrong and with our tow car still attached, it could have been a problem but the people there were super helpful and friendly. Our only complaint is the trash cans are overflowing.

This park seemed like a bargain at $18 a night, and unfortunately, after staying a week it looks like the ‘cons’ outweigh the ‘pros’ for us.
Pros: Very large, level, wide sites with tons of spacing, FHU (30amp), easy online booking, easy access from the highway (there is a narrow 13’9” underpass crossing if you use the Escondida exit coming south, which was fine for our 13’6” high 40’ fifth wheel), Verizon worked great, and it’s 0.5 miles from Journey’s Place (exceptional food and ice cream)
Cons: CG is right next to train tracks/crossing, which runs every night (over the course of a week, I heard the train horn at least once a night sometime around 12 midnight, 3am, and/or 6am). There are goatheads everywhere, and since we have a dog, I tried every possible spot to walk her and was unsuccessful in avoiding them. There is no management/host/etc presence in the park, so while we didn’t have any significant issues, we did see lots of dogs off leash and some wandering into our campsite and approaching our dog when we took her out. There were often vehicles driving around the CG (day and night) with seemingly no destination, and there was night where a group of non-campers had a ‘get together’ until well after midnight. While our utilities worked mostly fine, the water is hard with a notable metallic taste/smell, and there was consistently some trash in the park, behind the RVs, and strewn around the dumpsters.
As a CG this place is a bit of a disappointment, and while in a pinch we would consider staying here again, we’d try not to.

It’s a park ran by the county with trash, water, sewage and electric available. Easy to reserve online. Lake with fish and ducks. Playground for the kids. Can get noisy on the weekends.

I could have probably given this 4 stars but that might be a bit generous even though there was nothing bad about staying here. It's a bit of a drive off the main drag to get here but all paved. The "lake" is more of a pond but still nice with resident ducks. The park is large with a playground, restrooms, a ball field, and picnic tables. Reservations were easy to make online (it appears only 3 sites are open for use during the off-season) - my site was marked as reserved when I arrived. There was a lock on the electrical box so I called and was given the combination. Not sure what I would have done if I had arrived after hours but it turns out the lock was closed but not actually locked. The utilities were the kind you love to hate - all right on top of each other and at or below ground level. I guess that keeps the water and sewer from freezing, but the electric? Getting your surge protector in is tricky when the box is 4 inches off the ground. Great walking for the dog and very very quiet. Only one other camper here at the far end. If you want to stay in town, I drove by Luis B Diaz RV Park which was totally cute and worth checking out. My AT&T hotspot clocked in a 56 down and 10 up when I arrived. Outside my T-Mobile cell showed 34 down and 9 up with 4 bars. For the money, it was worth the FHU on a chilly night.

Excellent Verizon coverage and was able to hotspot and work all week with no drops in connectivity. Trains do roll past a couple times during the night, but it didn’t seem to phase my sleeping. No bugs the week I was there been with the water nearby,

A days drive from our Colorado home. Hook-ups if needed. Playground nice for kids. Only 1 train per night, otherwise quiet. Does have web site, so you can easily make res and pay by cc ahead of time. Otherwise you may have no spot. Don’t be put off by road from interstate to campground.

There was a wildfire here May 2018 but you can’t really tell. It’s close to train track so you’ll hear the trains.
The scenery coming into park is a bit rough but we felt comfortable when we saw other people at the park. The host was friendly.
One bit of info though. The underpass to campground is narrow but very doable. See picture.

Despite the train tracks pass only a few hundred feet from the campground it is suprisingly quiet. Full hook ups with 15 & 30 amp only but good shade and level easy in easy out sites. # 4 and # 7 have large trees on either side providing shade both in the morning as well as afternoon.
There is a playground/park and a good size pond with fishing. Good level areas for leisurely walks and close to many Socorro county and BLM attractions. Plus only a few minutes drive back in to town to variety of amenities.
Best to call or visit the Socorro county office to make reservations as the park stays pretty booked up, especially on weekends and holidays. Probably best value for visit to Socorro.
