Close to Anchorage but closer to Eagle River that offers all the amenities that one can ask for. Clean, simple, affordable. What can you ask for @ 20$/night?

You could fit any size rig in here depending on what’s available. Third loop (closest to the river) seems to have the smallest sites. Overflow lot available, we came once around 10pm on Thursday and had to stay there but on our return on a Tuesday there was plenty of room. RV dump is non operational. While we were there someone was driving about 40 mph around the loops and then out in a very loud truck at 930pm.
I would stay here as a stop over, but would not make it a destination.

When we arrived here on Thursday (July 27) and there were many sites that had chairs "saving" the sites. Turns out it was a constant turn over of locals, maybe even all family members holding sites for other folks. No host to be found in the 3 days we stayed here. Only trash was up in the closed dump area on the way out of the campground. Vault toilets, no showers.
Road noise, planes and a train could be heard, lesser at night. Not issues during the overnight in our travel trailer which is very well insulated thus helping keep the inside quiet, much more so than most rv's.
Convenient to Anchorage and shopping. Close to a VFW for veterans who like to visit these on stays around the country. This one actually used to be the original starting line for the iditarod.
Confusing when following GPS. Listen to it, the left right off the highway looks almost like it's having you get on the on-ramp but it is not. The two roads are very close to each other. Then once on the road be sure to go down the 1/2 mile or so that GPS states. There are 3 or 4 other right hand turns prior to the CG.
Would maybe stay again. If only wanting a few nights and not wanting to stay on the military base. Cost is $20 for dry camping.
We have starlink and it worked okay. Was not collecting a lot of solar while there so we did end up running the generator once or twice.
Not sure if it should have been free but we were unable to ever locate a host to ask about the DAV pass and annual day use pass that we have. Signage was lacking with that info.

Arrived on a wed july 5th with lot of spots open.. note on check in box was limiting to 3 days not the regular 4 or 5..
Dump and water was closed and looked to have been closed for a while now. ?? The dumpster is in the dump area so go through there on way out to put trash..Not a lot of recycling in Alaska.. same thing we saw in floridah.. go figure.
Moose was rolling around the area and heard of but did not see bears.. skeeters were abundant for sure..
there is fire ring, picnic tables and nice and level spots again all paved.. We were on the lower loop "Rapids Loop" and its not on the river but close enough you can hear..
There are several paths around the area and we run up on a couple of guy in wet suits and kayaks coming down.. they were coming out of the river to walk around the worst part down just above the campground area.. :)
easy access to the highway and not far from a large walmart and other stores..
Cell service was decent, on ATT not sure about verizon, and t-mobile only roams up here and on ATT or its called GCI..
There is some traffic noise as you are somewhat close to the highway but not enough to make it hard to sleep which for me is the LIGHT all the time you get here in summer.. :)
If you need water the walmart does have the refill station in back of store.. its like .98 per gallon .. the local water from tap was actually good.. some friends of local friends let us get 20 gallons of water and it tasted great..

Three paved loops, all back in sites, some double sites, all with table and fire pit. It was easy to find a spot on a Tuesday, but it nearly filled by evening. You will hear some highway noise. FCFS with a 4 day limit, a camp host and kiosk credit card payment at the entrance. Pit toilets and at the dump station area that was closed were overflowing trash cans, interesting since it is bear country!
There is also a day use area and an overflow area that may have at one time been a group camping area.

We stayed here while visiting Anchorage at the beginning of August. It was quiet during the week, only filling up on Friday evening. Road noise was audible over the river noise. The signage wasn’t great from the highway and the road into the campground was rough in places but the campground roads were good. There are 3 loops with the ones by the river being better suited to tents and small trailers. Privacy in the RV area was varied with a number of double sites or ones with openings to the neighboring site. Our site was large and paved (good solar) but we could see the neighbors at their picnic table. Groceries, laundry, craft brewery, and a dump station were all less than 10 minutes away in Eagle River. The dump station at the campground was still closed when we were there.

It’s too bad. This is a nice little campground just outside of Anchorage. Most sites are well spaced apart (watch for the double side by side sites) and overall a nice campground.
There is a dump station but it has fairly permanent signs saying closed. They have water trucked in but says boil before drinking.
It looks like they used to mow around the entrance and the campsites but now everything is over grown ( this was written at the end of June).
It’s too bad as this could be a very nice campground. For $20 there should be drinking water and dump.

Eagle River Campground is nestled in trees down by the Eagle River. It's less than an mile to the freeway and less than a couple miles to downtown Eagle River. The loop road is paved as are the individual spaces. In addition to RV sites, there are a few tent only sites. The river masks much of the campground or freeway noise. There are restrooms and bear resistant trash containers, and yes, there are bears so keeping a clean camp is essential.
This campground is very popular with locals who want a quiet weekend. Every site was full over Father's Day weekend.
I had some AT&T connectivity with the Mobley but I didn't pay any attention to performance.
