This is our 'go to' spot when camping in the Carlsbad, NM area. The RV sites themselves aren't much - just pick a spot anywhere around the horse corral. The closest thing to official site designations are picnic tables and trash cans scattered randomly about. This isn't a problems as we've never had neighbors in the half dozen times we camped here except for a tenter or two down in the woods. The campground is located back in a beautiful little box canyon and the ranger's residence is just off the entrance road at it's mouth for anyone concerned about security.
This is open range with lots of cattle and its also heavily populated by suicidal mule deer so use caution when driving. Some great jeep trails in nearby Lincoln National Forest (be sure to visit Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area)
Huachuca would stay here again

This campground is within the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It is accessed from New Mexico via route 137 - about 55 miles from US285.
We drove to the campground to check out the route and the campground and assess its viability for our big motorhome bus - I couldn't find any specification for length online. The sites are about 24' long, so not good for us. There are 4 RV sites, 9 tent sites. $8 for boondocking, $4 for Senior and Access Pass holders. No dump. Restrooms have sinks and flush toilets, but no showers.
It looked like it would be a great place if you want to get away from everything, looked like there would be great hiking and horseback riding trails.
No cell signal on our Verizon phones at all.
The ranger was great! He had lots of information to share.
