Thousand Trails Diamond Caverns is a nice location actually inside the boundaries of Mammoth Cave National Park. The N.P. Visitor Center where tours can be purchased is about 5 miles from the campground. Lots of trails to bike and hike in MCNP.
The Thousand Trails Campground is old though it is adequately maintained. Many sites I saw were a challenge to level on though manageable. Staff is friendly.
For those visiting the first time, I advise checking in at the large building on the right and not turning directly into the campground to select a site. There is/are several RV parking spots on the left side of the check-in parking area that are parallel parking so pull forward and leave room for other RVs that might arrive as you check in. Though we had already used TT On Line Check-in I was pleased that the staff was happy to oblige my request to get a site with the hookups I wanted as well as a nice view out our large rear picture window. We were guided to our site by Penny which made the arrival smooth and uneventful. There was no gate or gate code during our stay (9/10-9/21/24). The pool closed during our stay for the season and was draining. Our site C/2 was level enough to make camp setup a breeze. Many of the sites are pull through and are back to front so the utility hookups are between the 2 RV’s. The spacing was Ok though not the greatest I have experienced at a TT Campground. If interested in Mammoth Cave Tours I suggest making on-line reservations because the tours book up fast, especially the easy tours that kids are ok to join. I made reservations on line and paid with my CC. When we arrived at the Visitor Center I showed my America The Beautiful Senior Pass and got 50% back. I also suggest visiting the Diamond Caverns Tour which is next to the check in building. It was about $25 per adult and I enjoyed it more than the National Park Tour. There were only 6 adults vs 40 people with screaming children. Flash photography is allowed, unlike the NP Tour. If you are heading to this campground on I-65 from the South I encourage y’all to stop at Buc-ee’s which is 10 miles away from the TT off ramp. The prices for fuel can’t be beat. If you never visited a Buc-ee’s do it at least 1 time. We visited Bowling Green, KY a few times during our stay to shop. There is a WalMart there and I discovered the largest liquor store I have ever been inside called Liquor Barn. The lowest prices I ever have seen in all our travels. We did a day trip to Louisville and visited the Even Williams Bourbon Experience (Adults only and free to vets with proof of service). Even if you don’t imbibe, the history part of the tour is great. It’s like stepping back into the 18th Century. Costco is also in Louisville. For more information about Thousand Trails Diamond Caverns, read the captions on the photos I posted here.

Aside from being so close to the NP, best part of this campground is the staff. They were so friendly and accommodating. I also really appreciated how quiet it was.

Many other reviews have mentioned the key items: check in is actually across the street from the campground, easy to go in there, check in and get guided to available sites. We were in spot A6, and as others have stated, your door is really close to your neighbors septic. However, the plus is that you have a large backyard space about 30 feet long. See photos. Plenty of length in the site as well for our 42' long rig. Friendly staff. Pool was opened after labor day since it was still warm. 10 minutes drive to the national Park parking lot. T-Mobile was about 2 bars and 30-50mbps. It's literally 1-2 minutes back to the interstate, but you'd never know it. Enjoy!

Sites: There are some that are sloped, but others are great. There is lots of Big Rig Access with FHU (see attached map or here is the interactive/digital version https://sartopo.com/m/DMGNU).
Restrooms/Shower Rooms: Outdated but well kept up.
Laundry: Outdated but well kept up- four washers and four dryers, quarter operated
Pool: Is functional but in serious need of preventive maintenance. The pool liner is cracking, peeling, and is very outdated. There is an old ?wading pool? or something that is boarded over and the boards are starting to give away.
Location: Bordered on all 4 sides by Mammoth Cave National Park, about 7 minute drive to the visitor center. Nice small town with everything you need and big town stores (Cabela's, Walmart, Tractor Supply, etc.) just a quick 35 min drive away.
Activities: Has good diversity of activities- Pool, mini golf, playground (outdated but functional), and yard games available as well
Grounds: Well maintained and does not feel like a big campground. Lots of open spaces.
Staff: is very nice and helpful
Other: Very nice to walk around and explore

We stayed here in our 38' motorhome with toad. The staff was very nice and found us an easy access spot. We needed some extra leveling but did just fine. It was extremely hot and we did not venture out much. We made a quick trip to Mammoth Cave which was nearby. It was just an overnight stay.

I made the mistake of going right into the park, not knowing that the checking was in the building across the highway from the park entrance. I just got my spot and went to get my paperwork after I pulled in.
This is a very small Thousand Trails park with a high turnover, spots are vacated and taken before noon so get there on time. Not all spots are 50 amp, and some spots in the center island when you enter the park face each other so if you're not friends or family you may not like this feature. Spots are VERY tight, I had my neighbor's sewer hose touching my picnic table.
There are a lot of annual sites towards the back and upper locations of the park but most are clean. The bath house looked clean and well maintained. There is a laundry in the bathhouse building with 4 washers and 4 dryers but all the dryers were broken so I went into town to do laundry.
This is a great location for biking trails, the Mammoth Caves National Park (free entrance, cave tours cost) and the surrounding area. I had a blast visiting local cities like Cave City for tourism and a great Mexican restaurant, and Glasgow for any shopping needs you might have.

The check in building is on the right past the large NP sign at top of little hill,, when you see the crossroads sign slow down,, the building appears on the right along with the diamond caverns signs..
Our first time here. nice park with lots of clean cut grass. you check in at building on the main road by the big caverns sign on the right when you come to top of the hill.
there is no gate access which is different!!.
the "B" section is 30 amp pull through sites with you and the other site side by side on the curb side close together with the elec, water, sewer between the units.. :)
The main road coming in is paved and gravel roads in the campground that are for the most part in good condition,, no potholes etc. there is one that goes up a hill that is washed out bad.. go around to the end road to go uphill vs the one by the bath house but that is mostly annuals.
Seem most of the transient spots are in A and B section for the most part. A section 50 amp, B section 30 Amp.. We have seen a golf cart leading in some rig so not sure as we picked our own site with info from the ranger on open sites in the 30 amp area.
Power was good at some 118 to 120v.. the water pressure was not overly high and the water tested out to 129 on TDS meter..) no need for softener.
The pool area that is nice, a good bath house off the family center with seperate rooms for showers, toilets etc.. older but in good condition, both of the bath houses.
we have good ATT and Tmobile service on this site. t-mobile was 3.5 down, att was 10 down. they have the usual somewhat lame jabba system but we never use it due to att hotspot we bring.
GOLF COURSE INFO:
TO get to golf course come to main road (across from check in building) turn right and go almost to interstate to next left Doyle Rd.. Follow that around to the pro shop, you want to turn left then back right to go behind pro shop.. (it will make sense look on google maps sat view and park in front of the condo's past putting green) I posted a picture of the course card as there i NO info on this course i could find.
I played the course twice now. :) between rain days. :(
The greens are bent grass and in excellent shape.. the tee boxes, fairways, etc are crap. The fairways are "what ever will grow" they can cut.. they cut it all to a low rough level so balls can be hard to find. there is not much difference between the center of the fairway and the "rough".. (if i lost a ball on the main part of the course i did not do a penalty shot..)
the course is very hilly and there are a lot of washed out areas beside the fairways, in the fairways, on the cart paths which are gravel and around the greens in places. Its kinda short form the back tee's measuring at like 5300 but with the elevations it's a bear. there are are several dog legs both left and right.. and water on some holes.
If you can play with someone that has been on it before do so.. not a lot of signs showing how to get from hole to hole at times.. One hole on the back #16 is out of service do to sink hole in the green. you replay #1 again for 18..
(you get discount with TT membership m-f $17.60 +- 18 w/ cart.)
We did the "historic mammoth cave tour." it was very cool and a lot of steps.. (if you have ANY trouble with step do NOT take this tour.. ) other than that it was great.. lots of history they were doing tours in the early 1800's ..
RECYCLING:
For the recyclers, which is hard for sure, there is a nice place down by the cave tours building in the campground to the left.. go past the entrance station and up on the left is all the containers.
They take
*Plastic #1-2 only
*metal and alum cans
*Glass brown and clear
it's not a ton but helpful..
