Easily made our reservation online. We stop here frequently as a "stopover" location as we travel south from Memphis toward central Alabama or the gulf coast of Alabama. The sites are practically level and we can level our camper without unhooking from our truck. The hosts are very friendly and during the winter months, it is easy to get a full hookup site.
We stayed here twice between Christmas and New Year's, as we traveled to and from Montgomery, AL.
There are a number of full-hookup sites as well as partial (water and elec.).
There are nice concrete walking trails through the woods that our dogs love to walk on. They get so excited over all the smells and sounds of nature.
Definitely recommend this COE site.

Site 90 is one of only a few with good views of water. Most of the other waterfront sites have brush dense enough to block most of the views. Grass is well maintained, bath houses were clean, and staff polite. Only about 8 miles to Walmart and restaurants. The road from 45 to the park entrance is smooth but a tad narrow though not enough to make traveling on it a problem, especially since you will only be doing about 35mph. The road into the park and in the campground has a lot of joint bumps making it somewhat bumpy, but other wise in good condition. All sites are level, most a good size and a few are very long.
Verizon cell service is weak but enough for slow internet and phone calls. Varies upon the site, but all will have at least enough coverage for text messages. Ranged from -120db to 106db when walking around.
The campground is only a few miles from Columbus Air Base so there is a good bit of jet noise at times as they do training loops. Not bad, just a noticeable drone at times.

We stopped at this COE campground on our way back to Memphis from the Alabama coast and spent the night. We had originally reserved a pull-through site (#66) but there was a camper in that site that had issues and could not move so they moved us to another site (#13). This was a back-in site, but it was pretty level and worked out just fine. The ranger on duty when we arrived even paid the $2 fee for changing sites due to it not being our problem.
The sites are spaced well and are fairly level. There are concrete hiking trails close by that weave around the edge of the Tenn-Tom backwater. We really enjoyed walking around those trails. There is a lot of wildlife around (geese, cranes, deer, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, etc.).
The rangers were all very friendly and easy to work with if there was an issue. The roads are in good shape and all the sites are fairly easy to put a camper in.
We were there in late December so insects were not an issue but I can imagine in the spring, summer and early fall, they could be challenging.
NOTE: If you are using GPS, be aware that some systems might try to take you through West Point, MS and on Barton Ferry Rd. Be aware, Barton Ferry Rd does NOT cross the river so you cannot access the COE site from that road on the west side of the river. You must cross over the river on Hwy 50 from West Point and access Dewayne Hayes from there.
We would stay here again.

I grew up going to Dewayne Hayes. Compared to most campgrounds around the country, it sets itself apart.
Many positives. The gate attendants and park hosts were exceptionally nice and seemed to care if we were having a good time. The sites are large, paved concrete pads, 20x20ft pebble rock camping site with lantern pole, picnic table, grill and fire ring. Most sites are level and have generous amounts of space between them. Many sites are on the water and sites 1-13 & 64-76 have sewer. There is a dump station located at the front of the campground. All sites have 15, 30 & 50 amp electric hookup and water. There is a nice boat ramp with trailer parking inside the campground. There is also a very nice fish cleaning station available at no additional cost. There are paved sidewalk trails that wind through the woods. There is also a basketball court, swings and a playground for the kids. The road throughout the campground is flat which makes for nice bike riding. The bathhouses are strategically located throughout the campground. They are nice and cleaned daily. I would note that they are heated in the winter, but no A/C in the summer. There are four dumpsters at the front of the park for trash. There is also a day use side attached to explore.
Some things that could use some improvement. They no longer offer washers and dryers for guests. They don’t have a swimming area and the splash ground was closed as well during our trip due to flood damage last year. The road throughout the park is in need of resurfacing. The tent camping area is overgrown and unusable. Many of the water sites have no view due to lack of trimming and overgrowth.
There is quite a bit of wildlife writhin the campground. We saw armadillos, raccoons, squirrels, turtles, and even a beaver. A word of advice, carry your trash to the dumpster nightly, The raccoons are professionals here. Don’t leave trash hanging from your lantern pole or in the back of your truck…ask me how I know. Also the mosquitos can be a problem so come prepared.
Overall, this is a great campground that shines above most, but could use some TLC. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice clean COE campground with well spaced out sites. Level sites with a concrete pad. Picnic table table and fire pit are on a large 20x20 pebble pad. Small 3x3 wood table next to the grill is a nice touch. The layout is very nice. There’s even overflow 4 car space parking every 5 sites or so. Sites are deep. I put my 26ft class C, my tow dolly and my Honda CRV on the pad and still had plenty of space left over. There’s a boat ramp and a parking lot for boat trailers as well. Very nice fish cleaning stations. Dump station near the entrance with four dumpsters for trash. Shower houses were clean and had a bench in each stall. Shower houses get a solid B rating. I have seen some that are better elsewhere and I have seen many a lot worse. It’s very quiet and the camp hosts patrol in their golf carts several times a day but I had no interaction with them. I never saw a laundry and there’s no mention of one on the handout. I live next to the Maurpas wetlands(that’s the polite way to say swamp) in Louisiana and even I thought there was a lot of bugs here..mosquitoes and deer flies. I put on deep woods off and they still came after me. I was warned at check in that there’s no entry at all into the campground from 10pm-8am. You can can go out but you can’t come in. My only real complaint a there’s no trash cans in the campground except the dumpsters at the front. It would be nice to have a small trash can outside of the bathhouses, I have 2 Labrador retrievers so it would be nice to have a place to drop off the pet mess bags in a trash can while walking them and not have to lug it around. That just encourages people not to pick up after their dogs, to which I am totally opposed.

We really liked the location of this campground. And of course, as all ACOE campgrounds are, it was well spaced out and right on the river. We live full time in our RV and were looking forward to using the advertised laundry facilities, but they were all locked up. When we went to check again, only the hosts could use them. Such a bummer.
We also had a plumbing emergency (a leak in a water pipe) and my husband got up first thing in the morning to run to Lowe’s. On his way back, he was locked out. I called the host to see if he could let him back in and woke him up. It was 7:30 am and we thought the gate opened at 6. He said it was 8 and that it was on the window at the gate. He almost made my husband wait at the gate for 30 min till the appropriate time. When my husband looked, they had the flyer they gave us with the 6 scratched off and written very small was 8am. Would have been nice to know that. Seems the hosts have kind of changed things a bit to fit them better. I know it’s the off season, but if we knew these changes ahead of time, that would have been helpful.
Again, nice campground and a great little hiking trail there as well.
