So quiet you think your in outer space. So dark it's unnatural. Wildlife everywhere. Only 7 camp sites, no elect, no water, no dump. Sites are miles apart. bunk house sleeps 8. Reservations only no drop in allowed to camp. Day use is ok. 20 miles of dirt road to get here. The river is great, caught small and large mouth bass. Mostly on top water baits. Bring your boat, but you have to carry it 7/8 mile. So bring a cart you won't be disappointed. The river is so clean the entire state of Texas sets it's standards by this water. Natural spring fed, Crystal clear. Catch and release on the bass but not catfish. Hiking is rugged but worth the effort, you will not be disappointed. Lots of fossils to be viewed but not collected.
Park staff are friendly and can give out great info on the area.
Wonderful place to disappear for a while. Spring and fall is best summer is hot. Ask to see the cave art.
Internet available at the ranger station. Great hot showers and bathrooms.

If your into off the beaten track them this is the place for you. Great wilderness camping in far west texas. Awesome high desert mountains, spring Fed river full of bass. Bring your kayak for river adventure. Fossil s everywhere (illegal to collect) caves dwelings with Indian art (ranger guided) water is well water and is drinkable but not offered as such.
Bunk house sleeps 10. A bit difficult to reach but well worth it. Watch for flash flooding when crossing the creeks. Wilderness camping available with hike in sites. Canoe sites available for river travel. One of the most remote places I've ever camped. Very friendly rangers.
