Cool place to camp for free. Campsite #1 is 1.2 miles in on the main road. Just a grassy area with a nice oak tree for shade next to the only picnic table I saw. To get there, starting from Main Street and Scenic Rivers Blvd in Salem, head north on Route #19 (starts out as 68 then forks right, can't miss) for 13.8 miles. Make a right onto the second dirt road you see, not the first.
This is 404, although the sign reads 4040. Continue straight down this road for 1.2 miles and site is on left.
Good Verizon signal here. Well, two bars is good to me.

Would give this spot 5 stars if staying in the summer. In the winter, the right side is mostly shaded for the day and has thick mud that does not dry. We got stuck in the mud and it was apparent (from the grass) that others have gotten stuck before us. No other campers arrived in our two night weekend stay. Cars pass on the road in front of the campsite every so often but were not a bother.

There are 5 different camping areas in the conservation area but we stayed in the first area mainly for cell reception. The further in you go you lose reception but the whole area is quiet and beautiful. No other campers.
No electric or water. Boondocking at its best.Grassy areas for camping and mostly level.Firepits scattered but we didn't have a fire due to the amount of fall leaves and dry grass. Close to town.14 day limit.2 miles to the 1st campsite from highway on a well maintained gravel road. Hunting season starts next week so I would be careful about that.
