I have a Subaru forester and ended up getting stuck after taking an angle wrong in the mud. It had rained heavily a week prior. Unless you’re driving a jeep or have more lift I probably wouldn’t suggest trying to go to the private sites.
The first 3-4 miles of road is gravel then it shifts to dirt and grass. It’s a bayou so of course it gets flooding after heavy rain.
Aside from that, there’s a lot of traffic from hunters, the sites are difficult to identify, and you’ll hear guns going off quite a bit during the season. The wooded areas are dense with lots of water run off even where the roads are dry. I’m sure bugs are terrible in warmer months.
This area is densely populated with loud and active coyotes, I heard a couple of packs at least 10 strong. Definitely not the safest place for people that have dogs. I found several fresh deer carcasses that had been ripped up by coyotes.
I respect nature and predators and I know they’re everywhere. But for being camper friendly this was just too many coyotes in a small space for my comfort level. And I’m not new to wildlife.
