We were only camper at the site and a pickup truck woke us at 4 in the morning as he buzzed us at high speed turning a “donut” beside us and spraying our van with sandy red dirt. Tell-tale signs of previous activity at this site like this should have alerted us. We’ll be more aware next time.

Big rig accessible - trees are away from road so we didn't get any scratches. Very secluded place although 2 other campers were there. Very nice scenic spot a short walk down the road.

Overall, this was a great stop along a road trip to get some rest. The campground was easy to find. It did take some time in the dark to identify what were the individual sites (even though I was the only one there). Look for the metal or wooden T’s along the perimeter and camp by one of those. I didn’t dare open the portapotty… but there’s one there. That’s the only real amenity here. It took me 15 minutes to get from the campsite to I-49 access.
Also, there IS a scenic view! I noticed a sign at the turnoff, pointing toward the campground, for a scenic view. There’s nothing on the map, but if you continue down the road the campground is on, there’s a beautiful view. Go down the bumpy and maybe muddy road for about a mile, looking for a turnoff to the right. The drive looked like a private drive at first, going up a hill with a wooden fence.

It is near I 49 with about 4 miles of graded dirt roads after turning off the black top. Nice remote camping spot which had a porta-john.
Star gazing was excellent with dark skies at night.
No water, so be prepared. The dirt road had a few muddy areas but quite manageable.

Just about 15 min off of I-49. Roads in are a bit bumpy but made it easily with our 40ft fifth wheel. Last few miles are dirt road but in fairly good condition had a few places we had to take slow due to ruts. There were a few low lying branches the last 0.5 miles as mentioned in a previous review but they were to low for us to make it safely so my husband trimmed them back(he’s great) now just about anyone could safely make it. No one was there the night we stayed and we all would have liked to stay longer except we had reservations at the next stop already.
There is an on-site port a potty but has a large trash can inside and is full of garbage. The rest of the site was nice and clean and plenty of space for several RV’s.

Watch for a couple of low hanging branches the last couple of miles
Not room for more than 4 campers unless they are really close together
Other than that it was a quiet place to stay the night Did hear a few coyotes just before dark
Will definitely use again while traveling I/49

Medium sized grassy area off of forest service road. Nice and quiet. No views. Lots of ant hills but that’s norm for this area. Verizon service is better down the road and not great at the camp.

Lots of fire ant mounds...you can see them pretty clearly. Above mentioned porta potty is still there but I would not recommend using it at all.
Road to the spot is fine but could present problems if it were wet and/or muddy. The road graders went by early second morning.
Side note...not sure how often you can, but I was hearing tank fire from Fort Polk not too far south of here...
I had patchy Verizon service but was able to read news and stream YouTube...

Custis Camp is part of the National Red Dirt Wildlife Management Preserve in the Kisatchie National Forest. The secondary highway is narrow and winding. The gravel road was being graded the day after we stayed here (we passed the grader on the way out). The road was a bit washboard-y but fine to travel on.
There is no pit toilet. There was a port-a-potty but it was locked up with cables and such. Otherwise this is simply a meadow area cleared of trees on the side of a gravel road. Not much to be impressed with. No fire pits. Besides the abandoned port-a-potty, the area seemed clean.
Not that this is a direct reflection of the camp, and perhaps more a reflection of Louisiana in May (not sure on this though as I've barely been in LA for 24 hours), there were a lot of flies and bugs flying around. The flies were strange as sometimes they'd swarm you and other times leave you alone. In any event, the bugs kept us indoors for the night.
The WMA seems to be popular with hunters and there is probably more to explore for hiking etc. in the area if one was so inclined. As well, there are other parked campsites in the area that I believe would be close, but you would maybe have to pay.
We were the only people that we saw out there though and the meadow was plenty big to swing around in. Par Road is unmarked, but it is the first right after the large WMA sign for the area.

This was a great site for us to stay after a very noisy night in a Walmart parking lot. It is only a few miles off of pavement on a very good dirt road with plenty of width and height clearance. The camping area was large and open so no trees to maneuver around. We have a large rig. Smaller rigs or tents could get under trees on the edges if they preferred. It was perfectly quiet. A pretty area with large pine trees. There was a pit toilet that was clean.
