The FHU loop looks like a soccer pitch, no shade and sites very close together. There’s little adherence to vehicle and people limits/site. There’s one run-down shower house (distant from FHU loop) for 100 sites. Water was turned off at 10:00am Sunday in May.
The other loops with a mix of electric and no hook ups are more natural with shade and more space between sites. No laundry.
Dozens of OTAtv stations, all major broadcast. Verizon 1bar LTE from my site 84.
Hiking trails leave from CG. In May ticks were ubiquitous.
Road biking hilly on peaceful Park roads.
Glad I was only here 2 nights. Too many campers in the dense FHU loop.

Although water is turned off in the off-season, there are 2 locations where you can get potable water: camp host sites 68 & 69. Dump is also open. Restrooms and showers are locked. One camp host at site 66 was friendly and could rent sites. Also easy to do online. Nice lake with trails.

“Ok, Not great”
Reviewed 11/27/2023
This is relative to off season camping. There was indication that there would be a workable water station. Inaccurate. No water anywhere. No open bathrooms anywhere. Inaccurate map. I’m sure it’s fine in season. Not the best choice of season.

This large state park has forested sections and tall prairie grass areas, tens of miles of hiking trails, and a man-made lake.
The campground is a mixed bag. The newest loop has FHUs, but no bathhouse and only vault toilets. None of the sites (except 80 & 81)have shade nor privacy. Sites 95-100 back up to a road with the attendant noise. Two trails begin from this loop. This loop has 2bars LTE Verizon and a wide range of OTA tv stations (from St Louis). The electric only loop has lots of shady sites and the only bathhouse in the 100 site campground. The bathhouse is old and dingy. Despite what wooden signs and printed maps indicate, there is no laundry.
The dry camping sites are shady and many are private. Trails down to the lake involve 100+ stairs but lead to a trail around the lake.
There is no laundry
2bars LTE Verizon.
Visitor Center will accept packages.
A few OTA tv stations.

If you have a big 5th wheel, we have approximately 13,000 pound 5th wheel, using a diesel tow. Our programmer alerted us that the trans temp was getting hot. Engine coolant also got warm. The way coming in off 47 I would not recommend. The wife and I went out north out at Old Hwy 61 to TT to Lincoln Hills Rd. While curvy it was not as hilly and the speed limit was not 15 - 20 most of the way which means I’m doing 10-15, while also avoiding low hanging trees.
The stay was great! We went to the programs offered, my daughter rode her bike and frequently went to a small play ground with the other groups of kids. We stayed in the full hook up 50 amp sites. While deep the roadway was narrow so once I got in I Austin Powers the 5th wheel where I wanted it.
Lake was nice; we didn’t swim, we did walk some trials and the park. We were in spot 96 next time I am going to book something in the center where it was open and you had a great view of the sky.
Where spray against chiggers; everyone got them. Ticks were bad this year too.

Absolutely beautiful campground! You are deep in the woods and it is beautiful. The lake is not far from the campground. You just feel tucked away in heaven. I’ve stayed here a couple times and I just love it. The camp hosts are the very best I have ever encountered!

The bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities don't open for another week, as it's technically off season. Our hook-ups are fine. If we come back, we'd definitely stay in an E/W site, as they are more private. The trails are great, though don't forget your tick repellent. Lots and lots of barking dogs, including neighboring private properties.
