We are there now. The sand is better than it was...still need more rain for it to be packed like normal. We have not had an issues getting stuck...if you pick which barrel you enter carefully and stay on the semi-wet sand. Don't get too close to the dunes. Not sure if you have been here before, but you need a parking sticker and there are snakes in the dunes (another reason to avoid the dunes). There is also some red tide in the area.
