The area where this boondocking is located has been severely affected by the Wallow Fire of June 2011. The area is currently open to public use and entry - HOWEVER it may not have been recently assessed or maintained for hazards associated with the fire, so plan your trip accordingly.
Please keep in mind that any area affected by the wildfire can be prone to hazards such as falling trees, flooding and burned out stump holes. The environment you are entering is highly susceptible to rainstorms and wind events. Any time you enter the forest, you should be aware of your environment and changing weather conditions. You are responsible for your own safety! Always look up, look down, and look all around.
The first site is a great staging area right off the main road. While there is no privacy with this site, it is a great area to leave a rig to scout for even better offerings. The site by the road is flat and full sun with excellent Starlink connection. It had 1 bar of Verizon 4G. This Verizon coverage waned as one travels back onto the road.
The road is slightly washboard, but does not require high clearance. It has been recently groomed. It is two lanes wide. There are multiple camping sites along this road. The sites are well spaced and private. Due to snow coverage I would not recommend using this road until late April or May.
Not too far back on the left side is a spur that descends about 1000 feet into the valley. This spur ends in a private site loop with 3 fire rings. The road is a bit rutted and may require 4X4 if wet. The area has sun for a solar rig and unobstructed Starlink.
The first spur on the right FS 403, is very degraded and should not be attempted without 4X4 and high clearance.
There was no AT&T coverage on this road.
