Camped at the back site next to the gate. Only four sites. Lots of trees, shade, and protected from the wind. Cattle came through camp, so watch your dog. Some road noise but the road is lightly traveled.

“My name is mud...”

Shade blankets everything and all the day long as the campground sits beneath the trees for which it’s named, still snow covered, but open, in January.

These trees wouldn’t know cell service if it tried leaving them a message, but road noise is an old friend. Vault toilets and mud compete for gooiest substance.

Back in Alma, the little store has propane canisters, ice cream and a few canned goods, some frozen dinners and burritos to take and cook on your own. The drive between there and here is gorgeous, paved but rotting, a bumpy sort of winding road that motorcycles love to hate and which shake the doors off of old vans. Given the other options available, and a warmer month, one may want to scout around before losing their welcome mat to the wilderness.
