It was November 1 so not many people here. The Chama River was great fishing-for others, hubby stuck out. We stayed at #31 spot- nice that the back is up against rocks for privacy and dog corral. Closer to the river are #20 and neighboring site are best.

Site 20 was one of the best sites in the campground. Plenty of very large cottonwood trees for shade and neighbors were not right on top of you. Exceptional views too.
PROs:
1) Site was level (half circle) and long enough for our 30 foot travel trailer.
2) Outstanding views out our door and windows, site had a covered cement picnic table. The cottonwood trees were outstanding!
3) Good power and water at site and reasonable dump on the way out of the park.
4) poor to fair hiking trails down to San Juan River. The river is close to the campground so easy access to view - paradise for trout fishers. Good birding, I heard at least 10 different varities.
5) bathrooms were only toilets and fairly clean (cleaned by State Park officers).
6) took about 30 minutes to get into the fair size town of Farmington. Great downtown area and places to eat and shop.
CONs:
7) out in the middle of nowhere and the last 2 miles into the CG are on a dirt and/or gravel road. However, if you go slow, no issues.
8) The park service does no hiking trail maintenance so some bush whacking was required.
9) no where to really ride bicycles outside of the small campground (44 sites).

Sites vary in length but can accommodate larger rigs. Road through campground is wide and supports 2 way traffic. Each site without heavy shade has a mini pavilion over the picnic table. Each site has water and electric with paved pads, but not necessarily level.
Washrooms have running water. There are no showers. Easy access to San Juan River. Enjoy the peace and quiet. Camp WiFi is expensive. AT&T has the advantage in this canyon with line of site to the cell tower. No T-Mobile, sketchy Verizon.

Awesome Campground, Very Nice. But If You Are a T-Mobile Customer, There Is NO Cell or Internet Service.
There are a few pull through spots if you need one, 5,10, 11 20-24 were the nicest, but some have restrictions.

The last mile and a half of the road is dirt and rough in some spots. The campground is paved and very nice. Be sure to walk down along the river, it is beautiful.

We landed here for 2 days while traveling west. This gave us a full day to see the Aztec Ruins and to kick back a bit. Well spaced level sites. Camp ground is paved but the access was a 1.6 mile dirt. Great locations for fishermen.

Got good internet connection through my Verizon hot spot but I see signs around for a $$ internet you can join. I've enjoyed a short walk to the river to watch the river otters? and birds of all sort. I wish they didn't have a14 day limit -- I would definitely extend my stay.

Favorite thing - Location
Least favorite - overall condition of the campground, lots of trash and utilities need repairing.
Super great location for the fisherman for sure. We were right off the river so, river access was easy. Took us about 20 minutes to get to the lake for lake fishing. The fishing was good for small mouth at the lake, never caught anything on the river but, they are gold medal waters.
One small gas station and fishing equipment store was open.
Very hot, day time temps in the high 90's to low 100's. 30 amp service but, we were able to run both of our AC's. Water at site, dump station at entrance. Day use fees of $5 required for each day of fishing; the Rangers were thick! Wi-fi available at campground for purchase.
Lakeside, lots of trash and water level is down which allowed for access to deeper holes that wouldn't be able to be accessed regularly.
Great site to take the kids for simple lake fishing. The stars were amazing as well.
