Colter Bay is rather confusing for those visiting for the first time. There is a walk-in campground which was still accepting campers at 2pm mid week in July. There is also a Visitor Center, boat dock with rentals, 2 restaurants, an RV park, a traditional cabin area and a "tent village".
We stayed in a "lean to" which is a tent with 2 log walls and 2 canvas walls. You share a wall with another site but since they are facing opposite directions you feel like you have privacy. If possible try to get a tent facing away from the inside of the campground.
The staff at Colter Bay is attentive, professional and knowledgeable.
There are roll-away beds available for rent for those who don't want to sleep on the squeaky single beds attached to the log walls.
Each site has it's own picnic table, bear locker and fire grate.
The tents do look rather run down. I noted the run down look in my review to Colter Bay and was sent a very friendly reply acknowledging the need to spruce up and that there are plans in place to do so in the near future.
There are ground squirrels everywhere so if you have a thing about rodents entering your tent don't camp here. We saw a Red Fox hunt one down while eating breakfast which was kinda satisfying- those squirrels are BOLD.
Depending on who is staying it can get pretty loud. WiFi only available at the restaurant near the campground. You don't have to buy anything to gain access which was super nice of them.
