Question about Colter Bay Campground

Cheri asked on 2/26/2024

Are any sites walking distance from the lake? If so, which loops are best. We are traveling with a van and solar panels on top. Any best "sun sites" to charge the panels?

Honestly, ALL sites in Colter Bay are walkable to the lake. This includes the RV Park and Campground. I would google map the location and you can see at the farthest campsite is easily within a half mile. There are also many pathways leading to the lake. We have stayed here many times and only drove to the lake parking lot if we had someone that could not navigate a dirt path. As for "sun sites", there is not much. Both the RV park and campground are in forested areas. You may get sunlight, but it won't last long. You will most likely get light in the afternoon in the Summer since the sun is high. In other seasons when the sun is lower on the horizon, I can't see you getting much solar due to the tall trees throughout the campground and RV park. In the campground, I did have to run my generator about an hour a day or when using high-draw appliances for a short amount of time. I have portable solar panels, which was not worth my time to set up due to the limited sun exposure you would get. I do have 200Ah of usable power with lithium, so I didn't have to use the generator very long. If power is a big issue, using a generator or going to the RV park may be the option to choose. I hope this helps.

I think would be considered walking distance from the Lake and Village.
