if you are a local with an ATV, you should totally go and join your buddies here. If you are looking for a place to camp away from it all, this is not the place. It is definitely away from everything except people. A skinny little mountain road takes you there; very pretty road, but gravel and not awesome for little pop-up camper tires. We drove through the campground looking for an empty campsite, while all the campers stared at us. The sites were all full so we ate our picnic supper on the side of the road while ATVs whizzed by and stared at us. After that, we turned back and headed back to Nephi in the dark to stay on the edge of a parking lot style RV park. Disappointing all around.

This Forest Service campground has 6-8 spots along Chicken Creek in the San Pitch Mountains of the Manti-La Sal National Forest. There are several spots along the creek as you head down the valley to the FS campground. The road is an improved, compacted gravel road that is used by large mining vehicles (East of the camp site is sketchy - narrow, steep and winding). The road is wide and there are no grades. I remotely worried about with my ecoboost F-150 and 6K travel trailer. The sites are spacious, I saw a few coaches and 5th wheel toy haulers. Some sites have fire rings and tables. There are 2 FS dry out houses, 1 was still under construction at the picnic area (several tables grouped together) at the eastern end of the campground. The sites are simple, a little trash was left by the previous campers. You are close to the road and within 100 yds of Chicken Creek. It seems this area is most popular for OHVs so you will get the good or bad that comes with that. There was light traffic when we escaped to this valley in early April. Late at night, all we heard was Chicken Creek. Which means we didn’t hear our phones because there was zero AT&T or Verizon service. Hope this helps, and happy camping!
Luke Nomad would stay here again
