“Vast BLM Prairie”

There aren't currently any options for free or low cost camping or boondocking along Hwy 85 in Wyoming, so I found this BLM land just off of Hwy 85. Cheyenne River Road leads to a vast tract of BLM land; however, boondocking is available within 1/2 mile of the turnoff. Make sure you go at least 750 feet before stopping because the first bit of Cheyenne River Road is technically on State Land (no camping allowed).

There are several spots where the transition from the dirt road to the prairie is essentially flat, so getting off the dirt road with any type of equipment should be possible.

The prairie is everything a prairie could be depending on the day and season: Dry, pokey, muddy, windy, calm, cow-ish. On this particular night, it was calm & super quiet, and the night skies were amazing.

About a dozen vehicles passed by in the 15 hours I was there. Next time, I'll pull another 50 yards or so off the road in order to lessen passing vehicle noise a touch more.
