My kids had a blast riding bikes all over the ground loops. Bathrooms are clean. Electric hookups on some sites. Great dumps station and water fill up close by.
Overall amazing views and I personally felt 83 was best with a electric hookup. Fairly level and no one in front of our view.
Cons: there isn’t really a social aspect to the grounds. The “grass” is awful and many sites aren’t that level.
Pros: the views, scenery, sounds, access to Badlands loop, oh and THE INDIAN TACO at the lodge. Lord have mercy yum!

We are here in October so there is plenty of non-electric sites open. This is a national park so you would think the budget could allow the making of real sites that are level. Way too expensive for what you get. Does have clean flush toilets and sinks. Hot, windy, dry and treeless but it IS the Badlands so that is expected.

We actually did tent camping on this trip and we REALLY wished we had our camper!! It was super hot!! No trees, no shade, except from the picnic table covering. We had to spend the afternoon in the visitor center since it was unbearable to be outside. We daydreamed that we were inside our camper with AC. We had nice views of the Badlands, but they were a bit far away. The other really horrible part of our stay was after dusk, the mosquitoes were relentless!!! I was about to have a panic attack because they were biting me like crazy! Even the restroom had swarms of mosquitoes. It is also humid here so after taking a shower it felt like I didn’t even take one at all. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst tent camping experiences we’ve had! Maybe winter time is better...

Not really accommodating for large rigs but that was ok for us - our 17 foot camper van just fit in the gravel drive. I can understand why those with large rigs/trailers would not be happy. No shade but great views of the buttes, especially from sites on the outside of the loop. Bathrooms not the cleanest but not the worst. Picnic table covered but the morning sun in site 5 was brutal and we ate inside our van. Easy walk to the store/restaurant (food not terrible and some vegetarian options). Also accessible to the amphitheater. Glad we made reservations; the campground was full on a Monday night in July.

This is the oddest, and perhaps worst campground we have stayed at. Still, it's the only game in, Badlands National Park with electric hook ups and facilities. With only a couple of exceptions, you park on the street next to your site. Those oyu can back into are really tiny and almost too tight for a car and trailer. There is no shade of any kind except for an awning over the picnic table. Oh, and no campfire ring or campfires allowed. The showers and bathrooms are bad. Not unusable, but you wont enjoy them. The staff is almost nonexistent. What is good? The views! Get a site on the outside of the ring and you will love what you see. Waking up and falling asleep looking at the Wall and open spaces is fantastic. And the night sky is hard to beat. You can see everything with almost no light pollution. Also, sites on the outside of the loop seem to be more spacious. We had a large grass area where our dog could run around and play without entering anyone else's space. Avoid the being on the inside of the loops if you can. Those sites seemed small, and you'll always have other RVs/tents obstructing your view. I'll come back because I love the Badlands, but I will not not look forward to staying here again.

Pretty basic campground inside the national park. Some of the sites offer electricity.
There are two main loops. The upper and the lower. Believe the host is in site 11 in the upper loop (never saw them).
Check-in procedure is handled by a third party. I'd recommend driving through the campground and make note of several adequate sites. Then drive back to the "lodge" right up the street. Go to the cabin check-in counter and inquire about the sites. There is NO self check-in. Check-in process is not what I would say welcoming.
We scored site 11 without electricity but plenty of sun for the solar panels. Evening views were amazing.
There is an on-site RV dump and water for $1. Yep, one dollar.

During our Badlands visit in early September the temperatures were soaring and hitting 100 degrees. Thus, we needed a site with electric and dropped in without a reservation. The location is great with fabulous views in all directions. The layout leaves a bit to be desired. This is a former day picnic use area turned into campground. The radius of the campsites can be challenging to park in and some sites can be almost impossible for longer rigs. We lucked out scoring site 83. Although severely sloped, it was long and easy to park in. Most campers pull-in for one night and leave early the next morning. So to have a bigger selection of sites to choose from arrive before 11:00. The fee for an electric site is $35 plus tax. With hubby's Senior National Park Pass we received a discount and paid $26.38 which includes the tax. The campground is within walking distance to the Visitor Center. The bathroom offers flush toilets. There's a separate shower house which is coin operated and merely ok. As funky as the layout is, we enjoyed our stay and ended up booking another night.
