Get your camping pass and vehicle sticker at the office. Wisconsin state parks require a vehicle sticker for your passenger car. Got an annual pass as it was cheaper. Good bathrooms and showers. Lots of hiking in the state forest. There is a Walmart Super Center close by.
Decent AT&T Cell service, 4 bars of 4G, used WeBoost to get great streaming.

Castle Mound Campground is part of the larger Black River State Forest. It's just outside Black River Falls and the Walmart and convenience stores are just minutes away. They have several pull-through sites, which are somewhat rare in Wisconsin state parks, and our site (20) was easily the best one in the grounds. Sites 16, 18 and 20 were all excellent. You will want to stay away from sites 29 through 35 as they are in a low lying area where stagnant water abounds. Even on the "dry" side of the grounds, the mosquitoes were formidable. Bring plenty of repellent. Firewood is available self-serve for $5 for a very generous bundle. Bring your wagon. The shower building is new within the last 10 years.
Why 3-stars? There are no amenities. You'll need to bring your own fun and you'll have to leave the campground to have it. There are some excellent geological formations in the park as it is situation at the edge the driftless region of the state. To reach them you'll need to hike up a trail about 200 feet above the floor, but it's worth the effort. The local Black River Falls area has plenty of places to enjoy your outdoors. We look forward to returning.

We arrived mid week to a mostly empty campground. All sites were in trees but with enough to room to handle units much larger than ours, a 21 ft TT. We were lucky to be able to keep the site over the weekend because there was a late cancelation. The showers and water were closed for the season so we had to search around town for a place to fill the fresh water tank. The visitors center in town allowed us to fill 5 gal bottles. I should have checked on that before arrival.
This campground is about 5 miles off I-94 so it would work out well for an overnight if you are passing thru.
I thought the cost was a little high with us paying the out of state rates and the daily car pass.
