This campground is interesting. I believe it is about 90 acres. It is FCFS and they have TONS of sites. We came in the middle of July and there were many sites open. We ended up in the Cascade Loop at site 129. It was treed on all sides so offered a lot of privacy. We chose to do water/electric only as the full hook ups are kinda just in a huge field with little privacy. The water is located at the front of the sites, so you need a long hose, or just fill up before parking.
We had to pick up quite a bit of trash from our site and noticed other sites nearby had a lot of trash too. We also noticed the staff would water the unoccupied sites but would leave the sprinklers on to the point that the sites would flood. It is clear there is a lot to take care of here and not enough hands to keep things in top condition.
The bathroom near our site was not the cleanest and the shower was closed. Overall there are a lot of parts of the campground that are dilapidated and could use some repair.
Verizon was great here and the location is pretty good too. Despite all the things mentioned above, we still would stay here again. It is an affordable option for fulltimers looking to be near the park.

Cascade peaks is a huge campground, and you’re free to pick your own site. There are so many sites and loops that it’s kind of a free for all and a little chaotic trying to navigate and pick a site that your rig will fit in. We found that the Meadow had the best sites! A portion of the meadow has trees that provide tons of shade, and there are sites big enough to accommodate any rig. Our site was private, shady, and level. The water/electric hookups are at the front of the site which made hooking up a little inconvenient. Make sure to bring an extension cord for your RV. We really liked the site we ended up with and probably would stay here again since the location to Mt Rainier was good.
There were a few different bathhouses throughout the campground. The bathrooms and showers were okay—not the nicest nor the cleanest. There was only one shower, and there was a line to use it in the bathroom closest to us. The campground sold firewood, but there was a fire ban so not sure of the price (the fire ban was not enforced in this campground-we saw so many fires happening at the sites around us). There was a laundry room at the front of the campground ($2 to wash, $2 to dry). There were two dump stations throughout the campground ($8 to dump if you’re not staying at the campground). There is also two pools (one was closed), a camp store, and playgrounds.
We had pretty good Verizon and GoogleFi service here. Can’t remember how many bars.

We camped there in our 5th wheel for a few days, flew out for a funeral and then camped for a week over Memorial Day weekend.
There were LOTS of families and kiddos. With a playground, small pool, a lot of roads to bicycle on and a couple open fields with mowed grass this is a kids paradise.
We stayed in the meadow where the sites are large with water and electric. Some sites in the woods are tiny.
This campground is huge. Utilities are at the street so extra cord and hose needed. The Rv park with FHU is very crowded when full. The park could use some paint and spiffing up but everything worked. The gravel roads were a little dusty during busier times.
We had a great time and hope to be back some day.
Many campers were there for the huge garage sale in Packwood.

This place is huge! But limited spaces for our 25’ travel trailer. If you have a larger rig I definitely recommend the meadow or the full hook up area all the other numerous spots are very tight.
I would camp here again since this is a perfect place for a base camp while exploring the Gifford Pinchot trails.

I won’t be using electric and water hook up but I will be using picnic table and fire pit so I picked the 28$ one. I went around and picked my camp site. Paid 56 $ for 2 nights of stay. Set up my tent. It’s looks like All sites are for RV or Van.
I went back in to talk to her.
Basically I was looking for a discount. Since I won’t be using electric and water. she gave me 10$ back. Nicest lady host!

-BONUS for end of August: We picked hundreds of wild blackberries within the campground!
-friendly staff, friendly permanent residents
-hundreds of campsites to choose from. Both tucked within the trees or out in the open field. They only reserve if you know which site you want, otherwise FCFS. Laid back rules. Weekly rate available. Good Sam discount.
-easy access to Cowlitz river running by the campground.
-perhaps not for the high maintenance RVers. The FHU sites are tight and basically a parking lot by the road. Much better to camp in the meadow or forest, but the trade off is no sewer.
-we are a 41 foot fifth wheel so we chose the meadow.
-small store, laundry, playground, bad WiFi, but AT&T on LTE
-weekends are busy with lots of local families and many here to party. Weekdays were empty.

There is plenty of shade to stay cool on a hot summer day. The restrooms were kept nice and clean and well stocked during our visit. The women's shower closest to us was a bit messy so I skipped it but husband said the men's wasn't bad.
Mixed in with the regular campsites are full time residents, most of those sites by us were well kept though there were some that were questionable!! We did have Friday night neighbors that were still partying at 2 am and a Saturday night neighbor group that knew every cuss word, used them in every sentence and in front of lots of kids.
We had great AT&T access.
The best part of the campground is the location. Not far from either Mt St Helens and Mt Rainier!!!

The Good:
* Excellent Verizon (tower is across the road), otherwise we would probably not come back as we need it for work. We were able to watch Netflix without interruption on the TV using hot spot
* Some very nice E&W only sites near the river.
* Very close to Rainier NP
The Bad:
*Road noise if in FHU sites up front
* Wifi only at the office, but Verizon service makes up for it.
* Screwy utility layout. In the FHU area the utilities for four sites (picture a four-square court) are in the middle of the X. This means only two of the four squares can back in and line up properly with utilities. The others have to come in nose first which means most rigs will have to have an electric cord the length of their RV. Even on the good side it took three lengths of sewer hose for me to reach the sewer. The good news is that the two remaining bad sites are seldom used so you usually have no neighbors on either side.
*We camped in the FHU area. Neighbor's cars raised a cloud of dust as they drove by to their sites.
The Ugly:
* Horribly maintained
* Very low water pressure. Had to use pump for shower
* Dangerous electric. Open 100 amp junction box for little kids to stick their fingers in. Broken electric receptacle.

A massive campground with several loops - some heavily treed, some less treed, a huge wide open field (where we stayed), and also a full hook up area. The sites themselves are a total hodge podge... some tiny, some huge, some overgrown (but all dirt or grass), some here some there, some trailers backed in while other just drove straight in. Some sites we couldn’t make out where one ended and the other began! We have a big rig so chose the wide open field, no privacy but getting in and out was a breeze. Wouldn’t recommend booking the full hook up as it’s right beside the hwy, and also no privacy. The partial hook up is only a few $$ less and you can still use their dump station on your way out.
The good news is, this place is very friendly and despite the “hodge podge” it’s still clean, had a zip line, rope swing, tire swing, at least two playgrounds (one quite small but still), pools, river access, and a General Store. Didn’t check out the bathrooms so no comment there.
Our cell signal out in the meadow was perfect. No WiFi though.
Gorgeous scenery and Less than an hour to Mt Rainier NP entrance. Packwood just down the road had a brewery. Bonus.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return, but don’t expect a fancy place

This park was a mixed bag of very good and not so good. It has several different camping areas and it seems there will always be a spot. There are a couple of wide open areas that would accommodate a rig of any size, and then a very wooded area with a variety of spots that seemed mostly for tents as they were not very level. The roads are gravel well maintained. The sites are grassy. It’s location is near Mt Rainier NP. The people working here were very pleasant. It has a camp store that is not too high priced. Very pet friendly. Laundry facility was good. The park seems pretty safe. Vzw cell was excellent.
Not so good, the bathrooms always had dirty floors. The shower I tried did not have hot water and the lights were flickering. It is an older campground and shows it’s age a bit. There are permanent residents, which is not bad, but some were very rundown and seemed sketchy though I saw no unsavory characters 😎.
Overall this is an ok place to stay. And if you have kids there were a lot here and they all seemed to be having a great time. I’d say 3 1/2 stars.
