“A sweet spot on the river”

Reviewed 1/30/2022

Nightly rate: FREE!
Days stayed: 1
RV Length: 28' (Travel Trailer)
Overall Rating

There are a few level spots at this county park site. It is fairly remote and being a Saturday night I definitely locked our doors. But the only people around were fishermen. No one bothered us. We were the only ones here overnight.
GPS takes you to a house that happens to have a bunch of RV's, but that's not it. You have to go down a long dirt road, kind of like a frontage road to the main road, that takes you down to the river and a boat launch. No signs.

“Free Camping Dud”

Reviewed 2/17/2021

Nightly rate: FREE!
RV Length: 36' (Fifth Wheel)
Overall Rating

This place is a free camping dud. Carl Park is a Matagorda County park and is in need of some tender loving care. The Carl Park offers free camping, picnic tables, grills, a nice boardwalk along the river, fishing, a boat ramp, a trash receptacle, and parking for RV and tent camping. I could not find a stay limit posted at the park, and there is no toilet. Verizon cellular service clocked in at 17.6 Mbps download speed 0.87 Mbps upload speed. AT&T cellular service clocked in at 46.7 Mbps download speed and 3.67 Mbps upload speed. T-Mobile cellular service clocked in at 12.9 Mbps download speed and 1.16 Mbps upload speed.
