On the surface, Arkansas’ Star City is another poor town. Not much to get excited about. But the state park is a paradise as well as a hidden gem. Whether you like to hike or fish, or just enjoy relaxing, Cane Creek is supreme. Large and deep sites with plenty of trees and privacy. Views of the pretty lake in many of the sites. Water and electricity. One to two bars of ATT that is reliably fast. Plenty of good roads to ride a bicycle on, not to mention trails that seem to be great if the temperatures aren’t a hundred degrees. There is a boat ramp further down with a large parking lot. Campers have their own boat dock off a sidewalk leading down from the campground. There is also a new concrete landscaped trail leading from the campground all the way down to the boat ramp. Pretty views and lots of birds.
Check-in was easy and the two women in charge were pleasant and professional. Geezers get half off if they are residents of Arkansas. Out-of-state people like me get 25% off, which is still nice and appreciated.
We had another violent electrical storm to deal with around 6PM on our first night and we temporarily lost our power. Two nights in a row of storms and loss of power is not fun. But unlike the night before at Gulpha Gorge in Hot Springs we did not have to wait and suffer with no A/C for twenty hours. It was such a relief that within minutes the power came back on. Lots of branches and leaves were blown onto the roads but with no major damage. All in all a lovely park that we would definitely visit if we are ever again in the area.

We stayed here the Friday and Saturday night on Memorial Day Weekend. It was a last minute booking and the only Arkansas State Park with an availability those days.
The interactions with the park staff (Ranger and Superintendent) were wonderful. We told them our plans of doing their 16 mile Cane Creek Trail. They both suggested to skip the 6 miles uncovered levee walking and do a loop and part way double back. So glad we did. It was shady and cool the whole trail. We hiked to the primitive shelter had lunch and hiked back. 12 miles total. It is mainly flat.
Our campsite was the only one that had a shared drive. So we were less than 5 feet from our neighbors. Each of the sites (A&B) had their own water and electric hookups. The pads were level.
The bathrooms had showers with HOT water. They were clean and very well maintained.
We will definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay and actually extended it one day twice. Our granddaughter lives nearby, and our daughter was not too far away either. I understand this is the place to be on Halloween. Campers return every year and some have spent hundreds-thousands of dollars to decorate their site to win the contest. Sites are level and easy to access. The Office Team is awesome and makes you feel welcome. If you are fortunate enough to get the senior discount, the reservation must be in the name of the person "of age". There are opportunities for nature walks, but not true hikes. The office rents bicycles, and other items. Oh and there are two buildings for gatherings like family reunions.
There is a great group of restaurants at the Village that includes a Steak House, and a Catfish Buffet.

Not much nearby so stock up on supplies in advance. They do have bike and kayak rentals.
