This is an annual trip for our family and we always enjoy the RV sites as they back up to the water. This time we pulled in on a Monday afternoon and put our cooler out and went to bed. The next morning our Yeti cooler ($350) was gone. We spoke to the management and they said, “Oh yes, we have been having cooler theft.” If they had told us coming into the park that we needed to lock up our cooler, we would have done so. Poor communication on their part helping guests keep their valuables safe. We asked to speak to the owner when he came in but no one really seemed to care. The park has a good location and for that reason we will be back with lock and key.

The reason I only gave 3 stars is because the maintenance of the restrooms and showers were very Poor. Camp Huaco Springs is is beautifully situated on the Guadalupe River. If you're tenting, this place will be close to heaven -- the tent sites are in full shade and right on the river. It's beautiful setting (lucky tenters...). The RV section (where we were) resembles a parking lot but the sites are pretty spacious -- really 2 spaces -- so most folks won't feel crowded even if the place is full. There are even some trees, so many spaces are shaded for part of the day. The sites have full hookups. RV sites are above the river on a road, but if you're on the river side of the road, you get a nice view and easy river access -- although it looks like the best swimming spots are in the tent area. The noise from the river road that runs along the campground wasn't too bad when we were there, but I can see that it might get noisy during the busy season when there's vacation traffic to contend with. I expect that there are lots of pickups with loud sound systems going back and forth in summer. Lots of snowbirds(?) there in the off season, but as of May 2, they are booted in favor of $60/night turnovers for the summer.
Camp Huaco Springs is convenient to New Braunfels (and Schlitterbahn), so there are lots of dining choices (BBQ) and things to do when the river gets boring. We visited Natural Bridge Caverns and really enjoyed the tour through the cave. We did the regular tour but there is a tour of "secret" rooms and a tour where you have to crawl around on your hands & knees. They also have ziplining and a zoo. WooHoo!! Kids will love it!
FYI... We have ATT and had no phone or data service. The camp's wifi never connected either. Thank God for ebooks!
If you're in the area and don't mind the expense, Camp Huaco Springs is a good choice. It's probably great if you have kids to entertain.

Roads & pads are amazing & level. Overall RV park is quiet. Seems like a lot of older & long term rented sites. Tent camping area is magical. RV camping only has bathroom. If you need shower, you have to drive to tent camping area. Plus you need to purchase tokens while the office is open. If you are on the river side of the park, you have beautiful views of the Guadalupe. If you are not, not so much plus River Road noise. It’s a shortish walk down to enjoy the river. Liked overall but will try to stay at a camp that gets you closer to the water next time.
