Callville Bay Campground

Callville Campground in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and is a very nice CG with XX Sites. Overall this CG is in good shape, but probably usage at some point was overestimated and then over-built for that estimate. There are three sections in total, but only the first loop is open. Sections two and three looked like they haven't been used in years. We had about four or five campers beside us and the hosts. And let me say upfront, the hosts are absolutely awesome, friendly and attentive.

It’s dry camping with some federal organization and minimal amenities. They have three or four flush toilet buildings, dumpsters for garbage, several fresh water faucets, and a good dump station; each site also has a picnic table, and fire ring. All sites are open to the sky for satellite and solar and all are back-ins. They are level on both axises and consist of a fine compacted gravel. They are plenty wide and plenty long; you can check the specifics for each site on Recreation.gov. We’re a thirty-five-foot A with a tow along and we had plenty of room for both.

Callville is on the western side of Lake Mead and close distance to boating, fishing and water skiing. Of course the area is close to Boulder City, Hoover Dam (which is a must see) and Las Vegas. Though a few miles from water, it’s still hiking distance. While on the subject, there are plenty of wide open spaces to walk and hike right from the campground. Valley of Fire SP is probably thirty to forty minutes. Red Rock Canyon is probably sixty, and both are very nice day trips which we undertook.

Boulder City is a quaint and charming little town with all the essentials, with two great little coffee shops that I frequented though there maybe more, Albertson’s for groceries is a very nice clean well organized store.

Spent one night here. The host was great, super friendly. The campground itself is nice and clean. But it’s not on the lake. The water is quite a ways away and the hiking is not very good. It’s near the marina so If you are boating it’s probably great. But for camping, meh. There is a restaurant and store nearby that you could walk/bike to but that’s about it.

So, I've stayed at this CG on multiple occasions over the past year. It's an older CG but well maintained and always clean. They've added wifi to the lower loop with multi-directional antennas mounted on the bathrooms. Close to the lake, store, marina, hiking and biking. If you're lucky, you'll catch a view of the burrows and or long horn sheep roaming the area. $20/$10 with interagency pass, bathrooms with sinks/flush toilets, fire pits, tables and water available. Dump station is open with fresh water as well. Solar production is great!

Calville Bay Campground is near the Calville Bay Resort and Marina. The campground itself stays mostly empty during the week, and boaters/tent campers come in on the weekends. It's never crowded, and the camp hosts enforce the quiet hours well. There's a free dump station, whether you stay or not, potable water spigots throughout the campground, and the restrooms are cleaned daily. There's a bunch of great short hikes from the campground to overlook the lake, and the marina store has all the basic amenities if you need something and don't want to make the 25 min drive into Henderson.

Coyotes frequent the area, so it's best to keep an eye on your small dogs. They've been known to snatch them. Beyond that, it's peaceful, the sites vary from tent only to big rig friendly, and the abundance of trees makes this place seem like a small oasis in the desert.

Verizon was unboosted and did well during the week with 5mbps down and around 2.5 up. On the weekends it slowed down, but was still quite usable.

The $10 fee was with National Park Access pass. Otherwise it's $20/per night.
